Aftermath of the 6-Man Tag Team Match

This Pay-per-view, the eleventh ‘Backlash’ event, took place on April 26, 2009 at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island. Less than a month away from WrestleMania, (and opening with a great montage of that) this always tends to be one of the better pay per views on the WWE Calendar.

Opening with Christian going for his first ECW championship against the ‘rookie’ Jack Swagger. Christian being a favourite of mine, I was glad to see him get this ECW title shot as a ‘consolation’ to him not rightfully winning the Money In The Bank ladder match at WrestleMania 3 weeks earlier!

Second on the card, no one will forget the match between Chris Jericho and Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat for a long time. Classic Jericho, having berated the veteran wrestlers for weeks, Hall Of Famer Steamboat steps up to prove to the world that he still had what it took to be in the ring with a current top WWE superstar!

Backstage Santino is still denying he’s ‘Santina’ to Beth Phoenix & Rosa Mendez, resulting in Beth ‘breaking up’ with the mono-browed superstar!

Kane vs CM Punk is a match that came about because Kane felt he was ‘robbed’ of the Money In The Bank match at ‘Mania. (Punk and Kane were the last two to climb the ladders at the end of the match but Punk managed to kick Kane off the ladder and grab the briefcase!) Another 2 matches took place between these two after Mania, with Punk getting the pin on Raw and Kane getting the victory on a following episode of Superstars, so this, the Backlash match, has to be the ‘decider’.

One of my favourite matches on the card has to be the ‘I Quit’ match that pitted Hardy against Hardy in what was said to be the ‘go home’ match of their brotherly feud. Unfortunaly this saw Matt Hardy break his hand (Supposedly when Jeff jumped from the ladder after the match and landed on Matt.) But it was definatly a match full of brutality, action.. and duct tape!

Todd Grisham Interviews Orton and Legacy backstage. Randy does ‘Evil’ so well, he’s a natural heel for sure!

The Khali Kiss Cam segment is possibly the worst idea creative have had this decade…

Shane McMahon, Triple H & Batista Vs Randy Orton, Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes, “The Money, The Game & The Animal” as Shane has on the back on his shirt! Decent match, starting out with Triple H beating Randy to the backstage area and then coming back to make it three-on-two for a while. The match definatly picks up when Orton eventually does come back into it, and it’s probably one of those matches that Batista was injured in.. there aren’t many where he wasn’t!

And of course one of my all time favourite wrestlers, Edge, was up against John Cena in a ‘Last Man Standing’ match that promised to be a fantastic match and delivered with a vengance! How either of these two were able to walk for a week after this match is beyond me! Ending with interferance from The Big Show and with Cena meeting a very large spotlight at a very high velocity! Definalty match of the night in my opinion!

The extra or ‘Bonus Feature’ as they’re now called is the after-math of the 6-man tag between Triple H, Batista & Shane versus Orton & Legacy. Basically it’s footage of Triple H being loaded into an ambulance with Shane trying to calm him down and Stephanie by his side weeping and wailing. Some bonus!!

So, aside from the bonus feature I thought this was a great pay Per View the first time I saw it on TV and a great pay per view the second time I saw it on this DVD! One that I recomend you buy if you are a collector!

(One lost point for dressing Santino up in a dress for waaaay longer than it was funny, and a second lost point for a lame Bonus Feature!)
