The Best of SmackDown! 10th Anniversary DVD (3 Discs)

September 9, 2009   ·   0 Comments

A great way to celebrate Smakdown’s 10th anniversary and a unique format to this wwe DVD in the Top 100 countdown! Some excellent footage and some very fond memories grace this three disc DVD and plenty of mark-out moments for a 9 year fan like myself! Im not sure who compiled this list of ‘moments’ but there are some fantastic clips on this set and I personally can’t think of anything that has been left out that should be on here!

Presented by Matt Striker & Michael Cole from an arena that is being set up for a show and has some background noise, Im sure there is a point to that as we watch further! They inform us that in 2007, the word ‘SmackDown’ was actually added to the dictionary! This three disc set is so extensive that Im just going to talk about some of the highlights, the rest you will have to see for yourselves!

Some classic moments include John Cena’s introduction of the Spinner WWE Championship belt, (with some hillarious comments from William Regal & Santino Marella and some pointless dribble from Candice Michelle!), the famous kiss between Stephanie and Eric Bischoff (blergh!), a montage of ‘Thanksgiving’ shows (Involving lots of food fights and Gravy Bowl matches) an awesome match between Randy Orotn and Undertaker from 2005, and at number 95 THE BIRTH OF MATTITUDE!!! From his unique entrance video and different ‘Matt Facts’ every week, to his Mattitude Folowers Shannon Moore and Crash Holly (his MF’ers!) Mattitude was definatly an awesome time for fans of V1-AH!

They HAD to mention the cringe-worthy storyline between Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero but it did give us great matches such as the one see on disc one from 4 years ago today as I write this (September 9th 2005)

Edge finally shows up at number 90 with ‘Signs Of Friendship’, the classic skits he had with Kurt Angle where he’s written stupid things on the back of photographs and the unveiling of the new Kurt Angle T-Shirt (I bought that shirt!) that STILL makes me laugh! Also how Edge got the audiende to sing ‘You Suck’ in time with Angle’s music!

Jericho has been in a lot of ‘different’ matches in his carreer, but Im sure none stranger than wrestling Chyna for the Intercontinental Championship! The match included on disc one is the third match in their ‘feud’, with Jericho the champion at the time. Worth watching just to hear the old style ‘Y2J’ promo Jericho cuts before the match!

Carlito’s debut is at number 85 in the countdown, beating the then US Champion, John Cena on his first night on Smackdown to become the champion and start a memorable feud between the two young Superstars.

The Friendly Tap (Referee Tim White’s bar) has seen many a bar room brawl over the years. The APA Bar Room brawl with the New Age Outlaws in 2000 is one that is included on this disc. Probably the only time I could stomach Bradshaw!

‘Gore! Gore! Gore!’ is a familar cry from the WWE announcers and the most famous of Rhyno’s moves was on Chris Jericho through the Smackdown video screen that has been seen on many a montage through the years!

I’ll never get tired of seeing footage of ‘The Rock N Sock Connection’ so I was very happy that at number 77 is a fantasically funny montage of these two awesome characters! I could watch a whole DVD of these two together!

The Undisputed Championship match with Chris Jericho vs Hogan is at number 76. One Im sure Jericho is proud of because, lets face it, it takes a special kind of someone to make Hogan look like a wrestler!

Some awesome moments on Disc one and an honerable mention has to go to Eddie and Kurt battling over the gold medals and Eddie’s auction of Angle’s belongings that he stole from Angle’s lockerroom which is hillarious. Eddie was one in a million and I love watching him in his more comedic roles!

Disc two kicks off with a look at one of my favourite characters of the last couple of years, the now EX-WWE Superstar, Mr Kennedy. I loved how different he was, how edgy he was and Im very sad that he’s no longer with the WWE! Great montage of Kennedy moments.. what a voice!

Highlights of the Burried Alive match between Mankind & The Rock vs Big Show and The Undertaker are at number 68 under the title ‘Rough Landing’ .

At number 66 Randy Orton debut’s against Hardcore Holly in an excellent Smackdown match. (I think maybe Orton was just born good!)

The People’s Champion is in a handicap Tables match against the Dudley Boys at number 62 from way back in 2000! Excellent to see The Rock again on this DVD (Well it was ‘The Rock’s’ show right?!)

John Cena/Eddie Guerrero Parking Lot Brawl from 2003 is one that is definatly etched in my memory! Cena’s rapping really was terrible, but it was all good fun and a very good match! As Michael Hayes says ‘Anything with Eddie Guerrero in it was great!’

The Cruiserweight Championship match between Matt Hardy and Rey Mysterio is at number 59 and it really is a trip down memory lane to see Matt come out with his MF’ers, Shannon Moore and Crash Holly!

Number 58 takes a look at Superstars mocking other Superstars in the “Sincerest Form of Flattery” segment. Including classics from Edge & Christian, The Rock & Kane (Yes Kane!)

At number 54 one of my favourite segments is ‘Edge & Vickie’! No one else could have made this work like these two did! Totally awesome storyline that really did hammered from the critics to start with (including me) but I warmed to it and eventually grew to love their ‘moments’ on WWE TV!

Another fantastic collection of clips, with honerable mentions to the ‘Debra’s cookies’ segment (She cooks like me!) ‘Nobel and Nidia’, The Rock and Busta Rhymes get together in ‘The Rock & Busta’ Segment (Which I had never actually seen before!), Jeff Hardy is the new WWE Champion in ‘Fate Fullfilled’ (that still gives me goosebumps) and of course the heartbreaking Eddie Guerrero tribute show, which still brings tears to my eyes.

Disc three is as equally jam packed with fond memories and goosebump-inducing moments including Eddie’s first big title win at No Way Out in 2004 & Smackdown celebration, the hillarious & somewhat terrible Kurt Angle/HBK moment with Kurt singing ‘Sexy Kurt’ with Sherri Martell, excellent matches such as The New Age Outlaws v The Rock N Sock Connection from 1999 & so much more than I can mention in this review; culminating with the 9/11 tribute show at number one in their countdown.

Overall I reccomend this to ANY WWE fan, for a fond trip down memory lane, a brilliant collection of funnies, sentiments and gut-wrenchingly terrible moments that should never be forgotten!
