Featuring more matches than I have ever seen on any DVD compillation, this three disc DVD set is a must have for any wrestling fan; espeically if you were a fan of WCW back in the day!
Round about an hour and 40 minutes of documentary on disc one gives us a complete insight into WCW from it’s birth as Crockett promotions right through to the moment Vince McMahon got his gubby hands on the company! It takes us through Mid-Atlantic and Georgia Championship Wrestling, which eventually joined forces to become WCW under the ownership of the mighty Ted Turner and his empire, with commentary from some of the major forces of that day including Dusty Rhodes, Ric Flair and Jim Crockett himself. There are some portions of this documentary that are basically the same as The Monday Night Wars DVD and the Starrcade DVD but I don’t see how they couldn’t NOT have made it simmilar to those two, being about the same subject!
Some awesome matches from recognisable stars of wrestling even if you weren’t a WCW fan, such as Chris Jericho. Eddie Guerrero, Ric Flair, Rey Mysterio, Lance Storm, Sting & loads more!
The documentary DVD, however, was lacking some major stars, including guys that are now with TNA and some older interview footage was apparently peiced together from people such as Eric Bishoff who didn’t want to participate in the making of the DVD, but I don’t think it hurts the DVD much and we still get some insight into the problems WCW faced, although not much ‘down and dirty’ details (That a lot of us already heard the rumours about anyway!), unfortunatly!
A definate buy for any WCW fans, even if you bought ‘The Monday Night Wars’ this one has far more matches on it, a lot of which I personally hadnt ever seen before! If you were never a fan of WCW, it’s still worth the buy to see guys like Eddie Guerrero and Jericho have some fantastic matches! It is a very long compillation and I wish Id had the time to sit and watch every match in it’s entirity, but that’s the beaty of owning the DVD, I can go back and watch them when I DO have the time!
