– Home Video Exclusive – Josh Matthews Interviews Chris Jericho After His Match – Extreme Rules 7th June 2009

Hailing from the New Orleans Arena in New Orleans, Louisiana and origionally aired June 7, 2009, this Extreme Rules pay per view was the replacement for ‘One Night Stand’ (Origionally an ECW event). All the matches featured were fought under some form of stipulation, paving the way for WWE’s recent favour of ‘Gimmick’ pay per views.

Having not seen this when it was origionally broadcast, this made it for me; a more enetertaining DVD. (Although sadly lacking in Special Features once again!)

Kicking off with a Fatal Four-Way for the United States Championship is a great way to start. With Kingston involved you can pretty much guarentee some high flying moves with MVP and Hardy to keep it slightly grounded & Regal with his great mat-wrestling skills (and who never gets enough credit in my humble opinion!), they are a good combination.

Jericho never fails to deliver in any sort of match, this No Holds Barred match being no exception. Starting with Jericho up in at the merchandise stand, he berates Mysterio and his fans as he walks down to the main arena having some classic ‘Don’t touch me Junior!’ exchanges with some of the crowd as he makes his way to the ring! The audience seemed rather quiet to start this match (which probably meant there weren’t many under 10’s in the audience as Rey came out!), but they did eventually get into it. Great performance by Jericho; enjoyable match. & a favourable outcome!

CM Punk vs Umaga in the Samoan Strap Match was good, not great but still quite a good match although not as good as their previous encounter at Judgement Day.

The ECW Triple Threat Hardcore match was very entertaining! Lots of action, tables, Kendo sticks, trash cans; obviously not as hardcore as we used to get (and especially from ECW matches!) but still a really good match even though I long for the days of Crash Holly and Steve Blackman (Is that wrong!?)

The Hog Pen match isn’t even worth the time it took to walk the pigs down to the pen! The best part being as they walk back from the match and Edge is waiting for them in the office!

Orton Vs Batista in the Steel Cage match was.. Short! I believe it was around the 7 minute mark, and for a cage match that’s probably an embarassing record!

Cena Vs Big Show was an ok match. I am still a fan of Cena even though everyone seems to detest the guy right now through no fault of his own. I still enjoy watching his matches and, even though this was against the awful Big Show, it was still an entertaining match, dare I say better even than the sham that was the cage match it followed!

The absoluted highlight of the whole pay per view has to be the Edge vs Jeff Hardy ladder match. High risk and full of action, it was worth sitting through the rest of the pay per view jhust to get to this! These guys put on yet another amazing show and it still astounds me what they can put their body’s through! I could watch this match over and over again, infact I would buy the DVD just for this one!

Aside from the ‘lack’ of Special Features again, (I say it over and over; I think more DVD’s would be sold if there were more incentive to buy them such as ‘unseen’ footage and exclusives! Doesn’t it make sense?), the DVD is good. The pay per view is overall pretty decent. Struggling slightly on a couple of occasions but after watching the final match with Hardy & Edge all other faults can be forgotten! This could be down to the nostalgia factor of course, the WWE hasn’t been the same since Hardy left and Edge was injured and I loved watching these guys again, it seems like a lifetime ago not just a few months!
