The UK always welcomes the WWE with open arms and last year’s outings were no exception to that rule! Disc one is the Raw taping and Disc two the Smackdown taping (With the ECW added on that was taped before the previous night’s Raw.) Both from the magnificient Manchester Evening News Arena (My favourite arena in the whole country!) and both infront of a sell out and amped up crowd!

I have to admit that the Smackdown disc holds the most interest for me since I attended that show, so I went straight for that one to see it all again! They say there’s nothing like experiencing it live and I have to agree, and the advantage of going to a TV taping is that you can see it on TV when you come home, or keep it forever on one of these DVD releases! I generally go and see the WWE at least twice a year, and it never fails to impress me when I see the show live. Smackdown this year was the first time I’d attended a double taping of the show, and you could tell by the second Smackdown that the crowd had been SO into the first one they didn’t have much left to give! It’s the first taping that appears on this disc and in my opinion the better of the two.

Kicking off with a casket in the middle of the ring, we get an Undertaker promo saying what he is going to do to The Big Show at Survivor Series and interrupted by the new and improved Jeff Hardy (The face paint was awesome to see on the big screen!)

The first match of Smackdown was Matt Hardy v Shelton Benjamin! They had taped ECW at Raw the previous night and we didnt think we’d get to see Matt, so that was a definate bonus for us! Anyway as you can imagine, Matt Hardy the work horse got a thunderous ovation from the Manchester crowd and the match was fantastic.

I loved seeing Carlito again, it had been way too long! And I’ll never get used the ‘The Brian Kendrick’ he’ll always be Spanky to me!

When Vicky Guerrero came out I have NEVER in all the years of going to the WWE shows, EVER heard heat like it in my life! I honestly think this woman has struck gold and how she does it I’ll never know. Hearing those boos live made me cringe and I can remember putting my hands over my ears at one point!

When Triple H was out his mic didnt work, he was tapping the mic and some little tech guy ran to the ring and Trips made comment that “This wasn’t the only think that ?Mike? had something that didn’t work first time!” haha poor guy! This, of course is edited out of the ‘aired’ version but Triple H handled it like a pro and everyone thought it was funny.

Khali was starting to get popped at this time, something I’ll never quite understand, and his skits with MVP were just tragic let alone his ‘Kiss cam’ segments that were just horriffic. Who needs Saw 5 when watching this guy tonguing some weird chick from the crowd is enough to make me hide behind the sofa and gag!! MVP was of course entertaining as he always is, but the loser gimmick was already getting old by the time we saw this Smackdown!

The Undertaker /Hardy bout was awesome from where I was sitting, I had no idea who was going to win and on the edge of my seat! When Hardy won the roof came off the place… and then everyone realised he’d just beaten the god *cough* that is The Undertaker and half the audience sat back down! I feel this Samckdown was definatly the beginning of the era of Jeff Hardy as a top tier guy and I was lucky to have been able to be in attandance!

I will talk briefly about the Raw show on this 2 disc DVD set. Just to say that I would buy it simply for the Jericho/Michaels Last Man Standing match. It blew the socks off the place! Definatly one for the collection!

If you attended either of these shows then BUY IT! If you didn’t attent any of these shows than buy it anyway, you’ll get the Last Man Standing Match on disc one not to mention a couple of CLASSIC vintage matches from UK tours gone by on the extras (Undertaker vs. Jim Duggan Royal Albert Hall London, England October 3, 1991 And Shawn Michaels vs. Crush Sheffield Arena Sheffield, England April 11, 1993) Plus the ECW and Smackdown tapings from Manchester that week aswell! Jeff Hardy vs The Undertaker, Matt Hardy’s ECW Championship on the line against Irish-Born Finlay and corkers like Michelle McCool vs Maria!! (Yes that was saracasm but the other mentioned matches ARE excellent!!) How can you resist?

9/10 because… I was THERE!
