Breaking The Code: Behind The Walls of Chris Jericho DVD (3 Discs) WWE1265_Chris_Jericho_Frontsm

I have to open this review by saying it’s about freakin time too! I mean, seriously? Chris Jericho’s FIRST WWE DVD? Really? REALLY? It’s insane is what it is! Its Y2J Chris Jericho; The Ayatollah of Rock And Rolla! The King Of Bling Bling! He is the best in the world at what he does yet they couldn’t even warrant him a DVD until NOW? I suppose I should say better late than never but there’s a lot of Jerichoholics that are pretty PO’d that it’s taken this long to appear; the complete lack of logic astounds me and I hope now that they HAVE done it, they’re going to wonder why the hell this wasn’t out YEARS ago!!
Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way I do have to say how THRILLED I was when this landed on my doormat. Jericho was one of the reasons I even started watching the WW(F)E way back when and I will always have a special sentimental place in my heart for this guy who is, no doubt, a future Hall Of Famer!

Disc one is a fantastic documentary style piece featuring comments from guys such as Edge, John Cena, Dean Malenko, Christian and Chavo Guerrero to name a few. Chris himself talks about growing up in Canada and his parents. His father, Ted Irvine tells us that Chris was always reading and playing games from a very early age and we see some awesome home movie footage of Chris when he was very, very young!
Chris’ friends and former band mates talk about his love for music when he was a teenager and we are treated to some brilliant photographs of Chris-with-mullet!
Jericho tells us how important his friendship with Lance Storm was when they first started training and Storm himself gives us some insight. Some footage is included of Lance wrestling Chris in the Hart Brothers School, something I’ve personally never seen before!
Chris talks candidly about his couple of years in Mexico and how it felt to be ‘famous’, then how he spent time in Germany and then back to the States to do Smokey Mountain Wrestling. The promos shown from SMW with Lance Storm are hilarious!
Aside from aspiring to be in the WWE Chris says he lived out his biggest dream at that time when he went to wrestle in Japan, he picked up the tools of the trade from all over these places with his ultimate goal being to eventually reach the WWE.
A little disappointing that these international periods of his life seem to be slightly glossed over, as if they felt it necessary just to ‘mention’ them. Its a shame as Im sure Jericho has a LOT of stories to tell from that era!
We move on then to his stint in ECW and how Paul Heyman helped him along by allowing him to Suplex Taz on his first outing! Again a very ‘short’ chapter of this DVD, I get the feeling they are trying to hurry us into his WWE career.
He tells us about his time in WCW; how it was the beginning of the Attitude era and he was a baby face and it was a tough time! Then we get onto the Cruiserweight division and see some fantastic clips while Chris talks about how much fun they had.
When Jericho got to turn heel is when we really see his character shine through and he tells us how relieved he was to turn heel at that time and be able to do the promos and be the bad guy!
There are some very interesting insights into the Jericho/Goldberg rivalry and how that made up Chris’ mind to try and get out of WCW.
And so on to his WW(F)E debut, interrupting The Rock and cementing his place in WWE history for good!
Jericho talks us through his feud with Chyna and then on to how he thinks his promos with Stephanie were one of the reasons he got up to the next level in the WWE. (Although he didn’t really like working ‘with’ Stephanie as his partner!)
He talks about the unforgettable ‘Highlight Reel’ and we get to see some hilarious clips. He then moves onto talking about Shawn Michaels and how he was honored to work with the guy he’d grown up idolising!
On to the Chris Jericho/Christian run, now this was something I loved then and would love to see again sometime. They had hilarious backstage segments and brilliantly coordinated matches and if you never saw any of the reign of Chris and Christian then this DVD is worth buying for that alone!
“I was a big fan of Cena’s since I first saw him in 2002 so I was very excited to work with him!” Take notes people as Chris does actually comment on how much of a fan of Cenas he is on more than one occasion on this DVD! I remember being such a HUGE fan of Chris that it isn’t until I see the Jericho/Cena section that I have actually watched him being carried out of the arena kicking and screaming!
We then get to hear what Chris did while he had some time away from the ring, having his twin girls and spending time with his family being his number one priority but we hear a lot about Fozzy which is awesome for me to see. (Rich is interviewed, which was a mark out moment for me!) And they tell us about how they got together, and how they morphed into the serious band they are today. (And another mark out moment when I see myself on the ‘Let The Madness Begin’ video! IM ON CHRIS JERICHO’S DVD!!! WOOOHOO!)
There is more on this first DVD that I will let you discover on your own, but I have to say I was enthralled from start to finish and it has been SO long since a WWE DVD has had my attention from beginning to end (probably since the Edge one was released!) and I would pay for this disc one as a stand alone DVD for sure. BUT!
Discs 2 and 3 hold even more of a fix for a starving Jerichoholic! The matches on these discs are the most extensive collection of Jericho matches EEEEEVER! (Sorry I had to!) A goose-pimple inducing array of Jericho matches from the start of his career right up to his match against Edge at this year’s WrestleMania… WOW!
Just lately I havent being watching WWE as much as I usually would, maybe that’s because Chris is on another hiatus (thankfully because I got to go and hang out with Fozzy again!) but Jericho has a massive influence on this business and it’s fans, probably more than even he realises.  My son is 8 years old and when I interviewed Jericho he wanted to know if he could be his tag partner, Jericho said yes if he ‘ate his vitamins and finished school’ and my son is still convinced that when he’s 18 he’s going to be Jericho’s tag partner! He has fans of all ages; heel or face people love this guy to pieces and THAT is how to be a Superstar!
This DVD is fantastic. I still am at a loss as to why it took them so long but thank you WWE! 999/10!
Quite frankly I hope every Jerichoholic in the world manages to get their hands on a copy of this baby! Forget the rent, go Buy this DVD NOW!
