On October 4th 2009, the WWE’s Hell In A Cell pay per view came live from the Prudential Centre in Newark, NJ & this was the first WWE Pay Per View based solely around their legendary Hell In A Cell match. Fans voted to name this pay per view via WWE.com and ‘Hell In A Cell’ won over No Escape, Lock Up and Rage in a Cage. The order of this pay per view left a lot of fans scratching their heads in confusion, kicking off with the Heavyweight Championship match between Undertaker and CMPunk was novel if nothing else, however I do personally believe the fans were not ready for the match and therfore it didnt get the reaction it could have. The match was good, but the crowd would have been more fired up and ready for it had it been later on the card.
The Intercontinental Championship Match between champion, John Morrison and a vastly improved Dolph Ziggler is a brilliant fast paced match between these two young stars. Not a Hell In A Cell, no cage in sight, just a regular match on a Hell In A Cell pay per view, infact only three out of the 8 matches on the card are actually fought inside the cell.
Backstage Josh Matthews has the unfortunate task of interviewing Batista, who introduces his tag team partner, Rey Mysterio. They talk about their upcoming match against Jericho & The Big Show for the Unified Tag Team Titles.
This was followed by a 5 minute and somewhat unmemorable Divas Championship match that seemed to have been thrown on there to keep the ‘boys’ happy! Mickie James was as good as she could be against an awkward and still green-looking Alicia fox, and got a great DDT finisher on Fox, but this proves if nothing else that something needs to be done with the divas on all three brands to make it interesting again.
The Unified Tag Team Championship match is next seeing Mysterio and Batista face off against Jericho & the Big Show. A very interesting and surprisingly exciting mix of styles and obvious size differences! I didn’t like the team of Jeri-Show when it emerged after Edge’s injury and I am in no way a fan of Batista or Rey but this match had me yelling at the TV! Jericho and Rey provided the exciting & high-flying manoeuvres while Batista and Big Show provided the power in this thrill driven tag team match.
Next up is a fantastic montage showing the rivalry between the ‘Viper’ Randy Orton and John Cena. The match itsself is in a cell and is as brutal as you’d expect with both of these guys giving their all! Im sure the crowd are chanting ‘We Want Blood!’ at one point in the match! Never a dull moment in this WWE championship match, with psycho Randy being unleashed and both guys make use of every available side of the cage, and the steps, and the turnbuckles! Good contender of ‘Match Of The Night’ Status!
Josh is once again backstage talking to R-Truth, they go through a montage of Truth/McIntyre clashes and Truth then tells Josh what he’s going to do to Drew in their match, which is next.
Drew McIntyre Vs R-Truth. Ok Im biased in that I’ll pick Drew over pretty much anyone, but in all seriousness, Drew is awesome both in the ring and on the mic, and I know he paid his dues in the UK indies and he really does deserve this mega push that he’s getting right now. (and he hasnt disapointed!) This is a great match, Im not a huge fan of Truth but come on.. even the hardest as$es still do the ‘What’s Up!’ entrace along with him right? Keep your eyes on Drew McIntyre, Im sure he’ll be around for a long time to come!
Backstage in the locker room Legacy crawl up Randy’s butt and tell him how awesome he is, when they have beaten DX they’re gonna hit the town. Orton reminds them that this is Hell In A Cell and they’re not going to be hitting the town whether they win or lose!
The triple threat for the United States Championship is up next with The Miz (who is indeed awesome!) coming out first and cutting a promo in true Miz-Style, winding up the crowd and slagging off Newark and asking the mayor to please please ban him from the city so he never has to come back!
The Miz vs Jack Swagger Vs Kofi Kingston. Kofi, the champion, being the obvious crowd favourite in the equation gets a thunderous ovation from the crowd in attendance when he comes out. Decent match with plenty of action from the three competitors.
DX Vs Legacy in the cell is a fantastic magtch. It beats Cena/Orton slightly to take the ‘match of the night’ crown simply because of the way Shawn Michaels and Triple H proved all the haters wrong and put these guys over like never before! They really did make youngsters, Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase look like stars like Ive never seen them look before! The action starts even before Michaels and Hunter get through their usual entrance when Rhodes and DiBiase attack them from behind and it just gets better from there on in! The bell hasnt even been rung and already DX have dismantled the announce tale and knocked out Rhodes with a monitor before suplexing him onto an un-breaking table! Triple H and DiBiase brawl up through the audience while Michaels throws Rhodes against the barrier and then they too end up in the crowd when Rhodes takes a sick bump back over the security rail and smashes his knee against the corner of the cell, and still no one has even entered the cage! Between them Legacy take out Triple H at the top of the ramp with a double DDT and a ‘Cross Roads’ before going to work on a helpless Michaels, jamming his knee in the door of the cell over and over again before eventually getting into the cell and locking themselves, and Shawn inside with no way of Hunter being able to make the save when he comes to! They attack Shawn together in the ring and it seems like there’s no way to recover as eventually Triple H staggers down to the ring and discovers he can’t get in to save his friend! They taunt him as he tries desperatly to climb in or break the lock with a chair and meanwhile Shawn is still being beaten up.. and so it goes on! Triple H disapears and comes back with a set of Bolt cutters then they know they’re in trouble! Awesome match, if you can call it a match at all! It really does show case these young guys though and hats off to the wwe for that if nothing else!

If you haven;t seen this or if you’re a PPV collector then buy it! If you ha ve seen it then the extra is a video of what happened after the HIAC match between Legacy and DX, it’s good and for a change I believe it’s exclusive so it depends on your point of view (and cash flow!)
