Taking place on September 23, 2001 and hailing from the Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, this, according to ‘Wiki’ was the first WW(F) pay per view held after the September 11th attacks on the Twin Towers and, in honor of all the victims, the pay per view opened with Jennifer Holliday singing “America The Beautiful”. I personally don’t have a lot of memory of this pay per view so, for me, it was like watching it for the first time which made it even better to see!

What better way to kick off a pay per view than with The Hardy Boyz? They are pitted against 3 other teams in the fight for the Tag championships. Lance Storm and Hurricane (has he been flogging that gimmick for THIS long?!), The Dudleys and The Big Show & Spike Dudley are the other competitiors in this match and talk about some strangely thrown together tag teams.. but it works! Also good to see Teddy Long in his ref years! Great match, especially when Helms was not in the ring.. ouch! Some awesome wrestling and high-flying moves, (even a moonsault from Matt Hardy! Ah those were the days!!) and definatly the best action of the match was when it was down to the last two teams!

Perry Saturn is facing Raven for the honor of his ‘Moppy’ who Raven has fed into the wood chipper! Don’t you think THAT’s what the WWE are missing these days? A Mop? Hmm..

After a brief interview with Christian we see a montage of how the relationship between the two ‘brothers’ has broken down over the past couple of months. I remember dispising Christian with a passion following the break up of E&C, I actually miss the days when I took this all literally! And wonder who ‘grandma Edna’ was rooting for during this match! Absolutely fantastic match with both guys ending up bleeding and battered, and once again maybe it’s my ‘misty-eyed’ sentiment, but everything I’ve seen on these 2001 pay per views is so much better than today’s!! They just don’t make them like they used to!

I forgot Kronik even existed!

Stephanie is flirting with RVD’s dressing room door when Jericho comes along behind her for one of those classic Jericho-Stephanie moments!
The Hardcore championship match up between Van Dam and Jericho is good, it definatly feels like there’s a lot more thought going into these matches, they all seem longer too by todays standards. The Pittsburgh crowd seem more behind the Aliance’s RVD than they are behind the WWE(F)’s Jericho for this one! “Some yayhoos saying they know how to fall! Well how do you learn to fall kidney first onto a ladder!?” I’m not sure what a ‘Yayhoo’ is but come back soon JR!

The Rock defends his WCW Championship in a handicap match against Shane McMahon and Booker T and any time The Rock is in the ring is a winner with me. I love that guy, the character, his mic work, everything! I don’t believe there will ever be anyone as funny or as entertaining in the ring and out than that guy was and is! He’s a HUGE loss to the WWE and seeing this match again just made me miss him even more!

I never liked Booker T (He really did try and BE The Rock.. don’t buy it as a storyline! LOL) but this match is still a classic thanks to the Rock (And Shane of course!) “I said it once I’ll say it again.. Spinarooney My A$$!!” JR is a legend!! Absolutely thrilling match up even the refs are getting involved for their respective teams and the crowd are on their feet the whole time! I can’t help it, I want this back! A tied match of the night with Edge & Christian’s IC Championship match!

WHY we have to see Stacy Keibler shaving her legs is beyond me… but the crowd at WWF New York seem to enjoy it.. weirdos!
The night is finished off with the epic WWF Championship match between Kurt Angle and Stone Cold Steve Austin (With Angle fighting for the WWF and Austin recently defected to The Alliance). Being in Angle’s home town of Pittsurgh adds excitement to the event, and this was one ending that I DID remember!

Absolutely unbelievably fantastic trip down memory lane! I love my job!

Hailing from the Savvis Centre in St Louis, Missouri, origional air date was October 21, 2001 and this was the 3rd event held under the No Mercy name; the first, according to Wiki, being held in Manchester, England in 1999.
This show already got 10 points on the theme tune alone (Saliva’s Click Click Boom!)
On paper the matches that stood out for me were definatly The Rockvs Chris Jericho, the Ladder match between Edge & Christian and the WCW tag title match between The Hardyz and The Hurricane/Lance Storm combination. The lingere match isn’t worth wasting the energy of my fingers to type about and the actual ‘big’ Main Event just doesn’t hold any appeal to me. Aside from that, the rest of the disc looks to be a damn good pay per view.
With the Invasion angle still going strong it does kind of look confusing that they had two WCW ‘divas’ in a match against each other, and two WW(F) E guys (Edge & Christian) going against each other, but that is the logic of the WWE, at least they are consistent in their madness if nothing else! The other notable thing to mention is how Big Show even back then was put with the small guy to form a tag team! I guess some things just never change! The WWE Tag Team match, however, is totally overshadowed and out done by the WCW tag team match and seems to fall slightly flat in my opinion.
Test vs Kane was a definate slug fest/big guy match up while still being entertaining and worth watching. I’ve always liked Kane and sometimes liked Test, I guess it looks better in hidsight and with the sentimental ‘goggles’ on!
The ladder match is fantastic! Any time these two are in the ring whether it be teaming with each other or fighting against each other you will always be sure of a great match! Add in the ladder element and you can’t go wrong! Some truely sick spots throughout the match (back when the rules were slightly less constricting!) I’d buy the disc just to see this one alone!
One of the best times ever in wrestling history was whenever The Rock got into the ring with a guy that could give as good as he got on the mic and in a match, Jericho was the perfect guy to have on the opposite side of the ring to the Great One! Their mic work together was second to none and it will always be strived for but be never be duplicated! If you were a fan back then you will know what Im talking about and if yoou weren’t a fan in 2001 you really need to get this DVD and get educated on two of the BEST entertainers to ever step inside a WWE ring!
