Ortiz vs Griffin UFC 106 DVD Review
By Gary Graham

UFC 106: Ortiz vs. Griffin centres on a colossal rematch between two of UFCs most popular fighters; Forrest Griffin and Tito Ortiz. Griffin, following his devastating loss at the hands of Anderson Silva, is on a mission to regain respect and prove to the MMA world that he is still one of the top contenders in the Light Heavyweight division.  Having not competed in the UFC for over a year and a half, The Huntington Bay Bad Boy Tito Ortiz wants to re-affirm his position as one of the most feared fighters in the organisation by beating Griffin for a second time.

The ten-fight card also includes a battle between two ferocious strikers; Josh Koscheck, the heavy handed TUF 1 alumni, and athletic knock-out artist Anthony Rumble Johnson. With two of the worlds hardest hitting Welterweights squaring up, it promises to be an explosive clash. Another highly anticipated match-up sees Luiz Cane and Rogerio Nogueira face off in a bout where the twin brother of UFC legend Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira makes his UFC debut. With both fighters looking to make a big impact in the Light Heavyweight division, this should be a bruising encounter that will stretch both men to their limits.

UFC 106: Ortiz vs. Griffin also boasts fights between two former TUF competitors in George Sotiropoulos and Jason Dent as well as Amir Sadollah, the extremely popular TUF 7 winner and Phil Baroni, a veteran of the sport, who makes his return to the Octagon after a five year spell away.

The Review:

I am not going to write a full in depth report into this DVD as main card has already been covered by Dean Parr ( CLICK HERE FOR MAIN SHOW REVIEW )

Prelim Card:

George Sotiropoulos vs. Jason Dent
Sotiropoulos dominated both of the two rounds in this the first Prelim fight on the UFC106 card. Sotiropoulos in round two manages to lock in a nasty looking armbar and Dent taps out.

Caol Uno vs. Fabricio Camoes
Veteran Uno takes on the young Mexican Camoes in what promises to be a good fight.  First round was very even, Unos  experience shows through as he pretty much counters everything Camoes tries. Camoes is very powerful with his feet and fists, but Uno counters everything.  The fight goes all the way to a judges decision and was called as a draw, which is a fair result for both fighters.

Brock Larson vs. Brian Foster
Foster dominated the first round, looking the bigger stronger fighter.  Some hard hitting action.  First point deducted from Larson as he kicks Foster in the face while on the ground.  Then towards the end of the round Larson has another point deducted for another nasty illegal kick to the head of Foster.  The second round Foster dominates again, hitting some massive damaging hammer fists and kicks.  He catches Larson with a massive uppercut that floors him as Larson falls to the mat, Foster smells the blood and goes in for the kill, Larson tapped as the punches reigned in.

Kendall Grove vs. Jake Rosholt
This middleweight bout sees Ultimate fighter winner Kendall Grove take on Jake Rosholt.  Great fighting pace through out the first round and pretty even. Rosholt takes down Grove, Grove spins out and manages to lock in a triangle causing Rosholt to tap out.

Ben Saunders vs. Marcus Davis
In this welterweight bout Ben Suanders pretty much dominates the round with his knees alone.  Early on Davis is opened up above the eye, where he recently had corrective surgery to stop him opening up so easy.  One of Saunders knees knocks out Davis, which is the first time Davis has been knocked out in the UFC.

The Main Card (Full Report by Dean Parr Click Here)

Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin

Josh Koscheck vs. Anthony Johnson

Paulo Thiago vs. Jacob Volkmann

Luiz Cane vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira

Amir Sadollah vs. Phil Baroni

Overall this is a great DVD to add to any UFC collection, infact this is a pretty good DVD to own if you are new to the UFC.  The action is pretty much non stop through out the Prelim fights and the main card.  I enjoyed the double DVD set.  Disc 2 is a great addition to this DVD release and features – UFC 106 Countdown – UFC 106 Behind The Scenes & UFC 106 Weigh In.

This DVD can be purchased from all good UFC stockists including FightDVD.co.uk and from Amazon.co.uk
