Opening Bret Harts Return

The show starts off with a tribute compilation for the guest host of the evening Bret “The Hitman” Hart. Live Monday Night Raw officially starts of with the guest host Bret Harts entrance music hitting the stage. Out comes the guest host to an emphatic reception, he then goes on to thank the fans of the WWE universe for helping to keep his memory alive and welcoming him back.

Bret Hart eventually calls out his long rival and arch nemesis Shawn Michaels to give a peace offering. Shawn Michaels comes out to the ring and they speak over their differences with each other. They finish the talk off with Michaels accepting Brets peace offering where they shake hands and eventually give each other a long deserved hug. Bret Hart then proceeds to call out the WWE chairman Vince Mcmahon, however Vince declines and states that he will call Bret Hart out on “his terms”.

Womens Diva Tournament Maryse vs Brie Bella With Nikki Bella standing Ringside

In a fast paced match up between these two divas the Brie twins try to use their numbers to their advantage, but its not enough as the French Canadian Maryse seals off the win courtesy of a DDT and advances to the next round of the Divas tournament for the newly vacated Divas Title. The crowd didnt seem really tuned into this match the only times the match got some heat was when ringside supporter of Brie Bella Nikki Bella got involved in the match and slammed Maryses head against the announcer table and when The Miz interrupted Maryses victory celebration near the end.

Fatal Four Way No 1 contenders match for the US champion

Carlito vs Jack Swagger vs MVP vs Mark Henry

In what was a short but spicy match. MVP finishes up as winner after delivering “The Playmaker” to opponent Jack Swagger.

The crowd seemed into this match with MVP and Mark Henry getting a good reaction out of the fans throughout the match. The fact that US champion The Miz was ringside giving commentary only made the match more interesting and continued to build up his overall character and demeanour.

The camera then goes backstage where Chris Jericho talks to Bret Hart about his proposition for helping him get back at Shawn Michaels for the Montreal Screw job. Bret woefully declines though.

The camera then switches to DX and Hornswoggle getting ready for their tag team match-up against Jerishow for the Unified Tag Team Titles.

The backstage scenes were a good way of getting everyone ready and hyped for the following match that was about to take place.

DX vs Jerishow (Unified WWE Tag Team Titles)

If Jerishow lose they will no longer be able to contend for the tag team titles as Chris Jericho will have to go back to his full time job as a Smackdown superstar. Jerishow did lose courtesy of a sweet chin music by Michaels, with DX retaining their titles.

The match overall was good , however the commercial breaks took you away from the good parts and ruined the flow of the match. Also what the stipulation of the match would mean for Jerishow was a weak attempt at creating some drama. All that would happen is that Chris Jericho would return to Smackdown and have to set his sights on something else, when you really look at it he didnt have much to lose and that reduced the potential of the match it was poor way of ending a rivalry that couldve been executed and ended on a much better note.

The camera goes backstage where Randy Orton proposes to watch Vince McMahons back in return for the no 30 slot in the Royal Rumble. However the offer is declined by Vince.

It then moves on to Randy Orton being confronted by his fellow team mates Dibiase and Cody Rhodes who decide to give him a taste of his own medicine and threaten to kick him out of the faction if he loses in his match against Kofi Kingston later on in the night.

Another good backstage segment it seems like the threat made from the Legacy to Randy Orton got over with the crowd. Showing how Randy Orton is excellent at doing his job (Playing a Heel).

WWE Champion Sheamus vs Evan Bourne

WWE champion Sheamus enters the ring and brags on about his attack on John Cena the week before and how he is the best in the business. He is eventually interrupted by young and upcoming superstar Evan Bourne who challenges him to a match.

Sheamus wins the match. Looking at this superstar he has made a quick and immediate impact on the WWE, hes good at drawing the heat from the crowd as well. However theres nothing that stands out about him and says legend in the making. But for now there is still a lot left to learn about him which will hopefully give him time for his character to develop.

Kofi Kingston vs Randy Orton

Randy Orton picks up the victory in what was for me the match of the night. This rivalry continues to boil over as each week goes by. However there are signs that the WWE universe is getting tired of this rivalry as the crowd began to jeer babyface Kofi Kingston during the match.

Bret Hart and Vince McMahon Confrontation

WWE Chairman Vince McMahon and Bret Hart finally confront each other and after a heart to heart between the two, just when things look as if its going to be peaceful, Vince McMahon kicks Bret Hart in the groin.

The show ended after this, it was a good way of ending off the show as it left the viewers in suspense for if Bret Hart was going to be back next and how he would react to it. All thats left to ponder is if this new year opener for Raw is enough to fight off the growing support and buzz of TNA who also had a show on the same time slot directly competing with the WWE.
