Former WWE Writer Passes Away, SmackDown Rating, Update on WWE’s Cryptic Videos, Backstage Note from Tonight’s Live SmackDown and More

– Comedian and former WWE writer Patrice O’Neal, 41, passed away today after suffering a stroke a few months ago. Chris Jericho wrote the following about O’Neal:

“Sad to hear about Patrice O’Neal…I met him when he was a WWE writer and worked w him many times. Sweet guy and very funny! God bless u man”

– The November 25th episode of WWE’s SmackDown did a 1.89 cable rating with 2,928,000 viewers

– Mick Foley and the WWE Insider account wrote the following on Twitter regarding tonight’s live SmackDown special. Remember to join us at 8pm EST for live coverage.

Foley: “Getting into my Santa zone for tonight’s LIVE @WWE Smackdown at 8 pm on Sci Fi. There will be snow (not Al)..oh yes, there will be snow!”

WWE Insider: “Several Superstars are in the holiday spirit prior to tonight’s festive LIVE edition of #SmackDown. Mark Henry? Not so much.”

– Word coming out of the arena in Charlotte for tonight’s SmackDown is that referee Charles Robinson is walking around in a fully-sequined “Little Nature Boy” robe on. No word yet if this means they will be doing something with him on TV or not.

– While PWInsider reports that the cryptic WWE videos are for Chris Jericho’s return in January, The Wrestling Observer reports that the videos are for the return of The Undertaker. Reports were that WWE means for the videos to be for Jericho but that he has not signed a deal, at last word. Speculation is that they intend for the video to be for Jericho but if things fall through with him, the video can be used for someone else.

Mick Foley will be appearing on George Stroumboulopoulos’ CBC talk show in Canada on Wednesday night.

– WWE has released Dolph Ziggler’s new theme “Here To Show The World” on iTunes.

– Wrestling fan and American Idol alum James Durbin will be appearing on Chris Jericho’s Rock of Jericho show this Saturday at 5pm EST on XM channel 164.

– The Wrestling Globe reports that former WWE Superstar Travis Tomko has formally been charged by the state of Florida with robbery by sudden snatching from the incident back on October 11th where he allegedly stole 210 tablets of Oxycodone from a CVS. Tomko, who is currently going through a WWE-sponsored rehab program, was later found in a Chili’s bathroom where he told police he took 178 crushed pills. Tomko will be arraigned in March of 2012.
