Reliving the Past Year

2009-2010 Smackdown Recap

In October 2009 Smackdown celebrated it’s tenth year and to kick off this year in review DVD we see a montage of that tenth anniversary show, including Jericho, DX,  Punk, The Miz, Rey Mysterio and of course The Rock!
The Rock is possibly my favorite ever superstar in WWE history so it is definitely a mark out moment when he appeared on the big screen and did a fantastic funny promo morphing from Dwayne Johnson into THE ROCK! Damn I miss Rocky! Wrestling misses Rocky! A Fantastic way to start the DVD bbut how can THAT be topped?
DX, Undertaker & Cena (Ok so that comes close!) Vs Orton, DiBiase, Rhodes & Punk in the biggest tag team match in Smackdown history! Im a complete mark for Cena and DX so this is awesome on paper even before I turned the DVD on!

Other highlights from the first disc have to be Undertaker vs. CM Punk on 23rd October of 2009 and the 2 out of 3 falls Intercontinental Championship match featuring Morrison and Ziggler.
Each month has a ‘package video’ showing highlights as well and those are very entertaining; although on the November package they briefly skim over the Undertaker vs. Jericho in the UK that month. WHAT? I mean it was the first singles match they’d had together and they skip it?

Disc two in this set kicks off with a February montage featuring Punk, McIntyre, Jericho and Edge. Then ‘The Cutting Edge’!! How better way to start a disc! Edge makes an emotional speech about being back on Smackdown after his Achilles heel injury before introducing a Cutting Edge, interrupted by Jericho (it’s ALWAYS good when these two are in the same arena never mind the same ring!) A fantastic promo between the Rated R Superstar and Chris Jericho that I was intrigued in all over again! While those two are arguing CM Punk comes to the ring with his ‘SES’, Luke Gallows and Serena. It is the beginning of the ‘living beard’ and greasy hair phase and Punk has another awesome promo against Edge and Jericho (and the audience!); and then The Undertaker’s bell tolls and he comes out and kicks all their asses apart from Edge’s!

And not to sound tooooo monotonous but other highlights on this disc have to be Edge vs. The Miz, the triple threat for the Heavyweight championship featuring, yes Edge, Jericho and Swagger, Undertaker vs. Drew McIntyre and the Raw vs. Smackdown Money in The Bank 10 man Tag Team match (because I’m missing Christian if nothing else!)
Not forgetting the chapter titled ‘Edge & Christian Together Again?’ which is another ‘Mark out moment of the decade!’ for me. (2 on one compilation are not bad going for me!) Edge’s ultimate ‘parting shot’ to Smackdown after he’s drafted to Raw is a big old brawl in the ring with his former ‘brother’ and life long friend, Christian. Just seeing them in the ring together gives me goose bumps, even if half the audience in attendance seemed very confused… and quiet! Edge vs. Christian PLEASE?

And so on that high note off to disc three where we are greeted by Matt Striker and Todd Grisham who introduce us to this third and final disc.

May highlights include Dolph Ziggler and Cody Rhodes coming into their own, plus Big Show, Swagger, Drew McIntyre & more.

The story of Punk’s Straight Edge Society continues with his match against Rey on May 14th.

The month of June saw the Big Red Machine go on a rampage to find out who left his brother, The Undertaker, in a vegetative state, and also saw Drew McIntyre make a fool to Teddy Long in the middle of the ring. They show highlights of the Matt hardy Vs Drew McIntyre but thankfully included in the next chapter is the match in its entirety! Dolph Ziggler became Vickie’s henchman and Cody Rhodes suddenly got it into his head that he was dashing! (Should’ve gone to Specsavers mate!) A busy month for Smackdown indeed!

FINALLY.. A Christian match, and made all the more fantastic by his opponent, Drew McIntyre, awesome to see this match again (if infact I even saw it the first time around… I’m not totally sure!) But most definitely the highlight of disc three for me personally

Other highlights include, Punk vs. The Undertaker, Kaval vs. McIntyre and Kane’s in-ring promo; chapter ‘The Big Red Champion’.

At first I wasn’t sure there was much of a point in releasing a DVD from just the highlights of the previous year, but now after watching it I love it!!
Some great moments and a MUST for your WWE DVD collection!
