The Mat Pack Predicts… TLC

December 18, 2011   ·   0 Comments

Welcome to the newest Column by Wrestlezone.co.uk….The [Wrestling] Mat Pack [Get it?] Well, we were gonna go with the Care Bears, but, uh, that was taken and so was the Wolfpac so we are stuck as the Mat Pack. Now to give you an insight into this column, all the members of the Mat Pack consider themselves quiet knowledgeable about wrestling and we all get into heated debates about who we think is going to win and why? So I thought why not make this a competition? We all put our money where our mouths are, and so we have the birth of….

Kicking off the first ever Mat Pack prediction contest is World Wrestling Entertainments: Tables, Ladders and Chairs 2011 pay per view. Ah it is this time of the year again, Survivor Series has come and gone and Royal Rumble is only just a month away and WWE needs to have a throwaway PPV to try to milk some more money out of December. TLC; once an interesting stipulation for real grudge matches and title matches it has now turned into a crappy PPV format which gives us a Table Match, Ladder Match, Chair Match (rant on the Chairs below by Marty) and also a combination of the lot as the true and tried TLC match. The Mat Pack are fans of TLC matches and have been since they began, we mean who can forget the epic that was E&C Vs. Hardyz Vs. Dudley Boyz (back when Z’s where cool!) at Summerslam 2000. It was awesome to see Edge spear Jeff Hardy out of mid-air through not one but two tables and absolutely wow the crowd with a great amount of bumps that were absolutely awesome. But just like stipulations like Money in the Bank and Hell in a Cell around 2009 someone got the ‘great’ idea to make it into a full blown PPV thus changing the PPV from Armageddon to TLC. Anyway, the card looks average at best with a few interesting matches in there but most are purely there to further storylines going into 2012 and as build up for the always fun Royal Rumble and the Road to Wrestlemania. The December PPV is always low on our radar and this one is no different, however we are still going to write about it for the sake of it. So here is our write-up and predictions for TLC. As this is written there are 6 booked matches but we expect one or two to be added come show-time. Enjoy this read, or hate it or don’t read it at all, or spend your time by going to the store around the corner to get some crisps and booze. But either way, enjoy.

Merry Christmas,

From

Cody Rhodes vs Booker T

Addy Mac:

We have the active heel champion taking on the legend announcer and former five time WCW Champion Booker T. Please for the love of god don’t put the belt on Booker T, especially after all the talking that Cody has done about being a fighting champion. Have you noticed that whenever someone says they are defending champions, they never defend the belt, just like The Miz? Anyway back on topic, Cody Rhodes should beat Booker with a ‘school boy’ with a handful of tights and we get the rematch, especially since Cody Rhodes currently has no one else to feud with so may as well keep this going for another month.

Winner and Still Intercontinental Champion: Cody Rhodes

Tom:

This has been building up for months with the premise apparently being that Cody Rhodes is racist. Why else would he try to cover up the only black announcer? Unfortunately for him, he isn’t getting in the FAVE FIVE (hundred) anytime soon. He is, however, winning this.

Winner and Still Intercontinental Champion: Cody Rhodes

Gavin:

Okay I have strong opinions on this for the simple fact that Rhodes NEVER defends his title he is a great heel though and plays th part well apart from that annoying laugh, I really want Booker to win it and I think he probably can but then I also think WWE do you want him as an announcer or superstar? My pick is Booker T.

Winner and New Intercontinental Champion: Booker T

Marty:

Booker T has been the sunshine of Smackdown’s announcing team since being appointed as the head flubber of lines. Of course everyone loves a good botch and Booker T gives us treats every single week. Also who doesn’t love Booker’s Fav 5(000) which includes all of Booker T’s favourite superstars at this moment. The likes of… DAT SOOPAHMAN D-BRY, Big Homie Kevin Nash , Papa Shango and of course La Parka is in there somewhere.  But Cody Rhodes is angry because Booker T doesn’t like him, and Cody Rhodes is an asshole who rather wants Michael Cole to shout random shit towards Daniel Bryan, I mean D-Bry deserves it though… That bastard doesn’t eat meat… The cow loving hippy! So Cody Rhodes has decided to attack Booker T on a number of occasions goading him to remove his glasses and put on his wrestling tights to face Cody Rhodes in a match. Of course T-Lo also doesn’t like Cody Rhodes picking on his (black) announcer so he decided to book Cody Rhodes in a match against The Undahtakah… But he quickly found out Taker is still somewhere on Hawaii piledriving Michelle so he decided to give Booker T a chance to fight for his own honor… And to make the match’s ending even more obvious and easy to predict he made it a match for Cody’s IC Title. To be a little serious right now I sincerely hope that Cody Rhodes wins the match because just like Ziggler on RAW Cody has been red-hot for a while now and he looks to be improving with the week. He even added them freaking knee pads into his attire to hide his iffy skinny knees. But he can stop doing his silly laugh because instead of sounding maniacal he sounds like a 15 year old boy who is in the prime of his pubescent phase who managed to cop a feel on Kailly Kailly.

Winner: Cody Rhodes by obvious stipulation placement.

Overall Winner: Cody Rhodes (3-1)

Dolph Ziggler vs Zack Ryder

Addy Mac:

Ryder has been wanting this match for the past two months and by god so have I. Zack Ryder has done something that no one else has by getting himself over using the internet. He has gone from bit part player on Superstars to one of the main players on both brands. Ziggler needs to move on and get the annual upper-midcarder title shot at CM Punk and basically get away from the midcard title for a while. Maybe tag him and Swagger up more and have them fight Air Boom or something.

Winner and New United States Champion: Ryder or Riot!

Tom:

My heart says Ryder, but my brain says I hardly know her… Seriously though, I want to say Zack Ryder to win this, but logically I’m struggling to agree with that. Ziggler is once again picking up momentum and to lose the title after one match against Ryder could slow him down. However, I think there will be some shenanigans prior to this one ending and the belt ending up with…

Winner and New United States Champion: Zack Ryder

Gavin:

The YouTube sensation against “The Show off” my heart wants Ryder to win and a part of me thinks he can but Ziggler has been on fire lately especially 2 PPV’s where he competed in 2 matches but personally I think he would be better without the belt so for that reason I will pick Ryder for this match.

Winner and New United States Champion: Zack Ryder

Marty:

I want to see Ryder win this for two reasons.

Reason A: He thoroughly deserves to hold a title seeing his road to popularity starting with his internet show and him single-handedly pushing himself and making the WWE see that Zack Ryder is a big deal. He has become a merchandise machine and also in some venues he gets bigger pops than some of the main eventers of the company. His in ring skills aren’t great at any stretch of the imagination but his move-set is enough to make the crowd go crazy whenever he gears up for his ‘’Broski Boot’’ (Facewash) and of course people love his fist pumping goodness before, during and after the match and purely from the standpoint of him having worked his ass off whilst WWE probably wanted to future endeavour him and have him end up in TNA. He deserves a run with the belt.

Reason B: The other guy in the match, namely the US Champion Dolph Ziggler has been on fire for a while now and aside him doing double duty on multiple shows in the past months and looking impressive against a lot of superstars he looks ready to shed the US Title and aim for something bigger. Just like Zack Ryder, Ziggler has been working his ass off to impress and whilst Zig’s had WWE’s backing he has taken his shot and showed everyone how good he actually is. He can conjure a match from everyone but the worst opponent and whilst Vickie probably soaks up the majority of the heat his running story with fan favourite Ryder has given him a bit more heat. So what I am hoping is that he drops this title and instead of him falling into obscurity like 9/10 of midcarders WWE they actually toss him up the card and let him square off against the big boys with a World Title shot and possible run in the future. He has been on fire, and it’s time to strike that iron and have him prove he belongs with the likes of Punk, Cena, Orton and so on. I believe he can become a superstar on that level… To quote him, ‘’he is that good’’.

Winner: Ryder, Ryder deserves a run with the title and Ziggler can survive a loss with the view of pushing him up the card into the Main Event.

Overall Winner: Zack Ryder (4-0)

Kevin Nash vs Triple H

Addy Mac:

Now if Kevin Nash had Dragon Dragon in his corner then I would be putting Kevin Nash down as the winner of the match. However, because the bromance of Dragon Dragon and Kevin Nash only exists in my mind Triple H is winning this match for me. Triple H always comes back and always wins on his comeback matches and will no doubt destroy Nash enough to end this feud so he can get ready for The Undertaker, especially since this past Raw where Triple H said that he ended the streak.

Winner: Triple H

Tom:

Fans of watching quad injuries set your VCRs because this is one for the ages! Two men with histories of tearing their quads over the more mundane things you can do in wrestling step into the ring at the same time and prepare to face their biggest challenge… A LADDER~! Triple H to win, because… well… does anybody actually care enough to need a reason?

Winner: Triple H

Gavin:

I am going to have to say triple H because lets be honest a ladder match with triple H signature weapon hanging above them has Hunters name written all over it, And Nash looks like he struggles to climb over the top rope let alone up a ladder.

Winner: Triple H

Marty:

*scratches head* where to start with this mess…

So Kevin Nash… He is a big angry guy, why is he angry… No idea really, maybe they serve the wrong coffee backstage… I would be pissed if they did that to me. I think he is angry Triple H decided to fight CM Punk instead of him and since then he has been angry at Triple H because Big Kev doesn’t hold any power and he feels he deserves stuff. It all came to a head after Vengeance because Kevin Nash decided to try his newly bought Sledgehammer on Triple H and because it wasn’t in a match Triple H was almost killed. I mean if Nash actually did that in a match Triple H would have shrugged it off with ease. Remember kids, if it isn’t in an official match it’s more dangerous and deadly! Of course Triple H was off a few months because in actuality he was trying to find the best price on a new glass ceiling for the titan towers. But he found one and now he is back with vengeance and he has a sledgehammer himself now.  And what was decided, Triple H and Kevin Nash will square off in a Ladder match as the ultimate grudge match.Let me repeat… TRIPLE H and KEVIN NASH will square off in a LADDER MATCH as the ultimate grudge match. Sooo Botchamania watchers you better record this episode because my senses are saying this match will be full of fail. Other than the dubious fact neither can probably safely scale a ladder without breaking or tearing something this might also be a match for the hall of pain (not Mizark’s one). And to stay in the vein of it going to be a screwed up mess they decided to put a sledgehammer hanging above the ring and that means whoever manages to actually scale that ladder without injuring themselves can wail on the other guy with a sledgehammer. Goody! Goody!

Winner: Triple H, Kevin Nash is the big bad guy and Triple H is the big good guy. Nash gets beaten and maybe they can have a rubber match at Royal Rumble, maybe that time a Sledgehammer on a Pole match?

Overall Winner: Triple H (4-0)

Wade Barrett vs Randy Orton

Addy Mac:

I really really really really really want to say Wade Barrett, so I am! I think that Daniel Bryan might finally cash in MITB after the main event and we need someone to challenge him during the annual random Royal Rumble title matches and Barrett can fill that role very well. Orton will come close but Barrett will use his intelligence to beat him. I pretty much see the ending of the Sheamus vs Cena match happening over again. So yeah Barrett wins and we get Barrett vs Bryan at the Royal Rumble and Orton costs Barrett the match.

Winner: Wade Barrett

Tom:

The BARRAH BARRAJJ~! is in full swing and it’d be a shame to have it slowing down here, but he is facing Orton. It’s a tough one to choose since Orton doesn’t often lose to the upcoming names… although something about this is making me think that Barrett picks up the shock win before getting his comeuppance in the near future to finally settle the score.

Winner: Wade Barrett

Gavin:

I have really liked the “Barrett Barrage” bit that Wade has been doing but I think he will be stopped dead by Orton unless of course there is some interference, Both men have been on a decent role but I think Barrett has been getting the upper hand on Orton however my pick is still Orton.

Winner: Randy Orton

Marty:

Barrett and Orton come to a clash after a month of staring each other down and pissing in each other’s backyards. Just going to say right now I am quite a big fan of Wade Barrett so you can expect a little bit of favouritism. This feud started before Survivor Series when they decided to start interfering in each other’s matches and try to piss each other off enough. Of course when SurSer came along everyone put their money on Randy Orton because… He’s Orton. But to my pleasant surprise Cody Rhodes and Wade Barrett ended up winning and thus the rivalry between Ortahn and Bawwedd continued for at least another month. Thus came another few weeks where Barrett interrupted Orton to get into the head of the Viper and after a beat the clock challenge (I hate BTC’s) on Smackdown Orton decided to make it a Tables match.

For anyone who might not know (everyone knows) a Tables match is a match where both guys tries to put the other guy through a table. If that is accomplished then the guy that did not go through a table wins and is the happy camper. Barrett has been on a good run lately with his ‘’Barrett Barrage’’ beating superstars left and right and getting the pin on Orton at SurSer. He has been building up to a future shot at the World Title but of course the first thing he should do is go through Orton who also wants the title himself. Personally I want Barrett to win, I want him to win so he can become an even bigger deal in WWE and have him work towards a (deserved) match for the World Heavyweight Championship. Orton can handle a loss to Barrett because whatever happens Orton will be hugely over and popular with anyone who likes faces who only  know heel mannerisms (everyone?). But to be perfectly honest I do not think Barrett will go over Randy Orton because Orton hasn’t won a big match in a while now and knowing that WWE gets jittery when Orton doesn’t destroys everyone and everythings (pushes included) the writing kinda is on the wall.

Winner:  I hope Barrett, but I feel WWE will decide to give Orton a win to get him back in the Title Chase or even give the guy a Royal Rumble win (please god no)

Overall Winner: Draw(2-2)

Mark Henry vs The Big Show

Addy Mac:

Mark Henry has done a great job as heel champion but on Sunday it will end, though it won’t be Big Show who will be ending it….it will be my boy D-Bryan. I see Henry winning what is one of the worst gimmick matches ever, followed by Big Show attacking him leaving him laid out again. D-Bryan will come down to finally win the belt for a one month title reign. Saying that though I have a bad feeling that Daniel Bryan will run down and look for the cheap win only for Henry to destroy him resulting in him becoming the first Money In The Bank winner to fail in successfully cashing it in. With either scenario Big Show loses so….

Winner and still World heavyweight Champion: Mark Henry

Tom:

I really hope (really really really… REALLY hope) that this is the last time we see these two in a one on one match for the title on PPV. People aren’t playing to watch these two fight and, as much as the match at Survivor Series was actually decent, that isn’t going to change anytime soon. I’m going to say another narrow Mark Henry victory here. However, with the lack of face competition now, it’s about time a face actually won the belt. That’s why I actually think this is the perfect time to give Daniel Bryan the belt, after cashing in following the post match attack that solidifies the fact Big Show is a monster… even if he does like to recite LL Cool J songs.

Winner and still World heavyweight Champion: Mark Henry

Gavin:

My winner is going to be Big Show and I am saying this because although Kane is back to put everyone on notice I think surely he is going to feud with Henry which leaves Big Show free to be champion for a while.

Winner and New World Heavyweight Champion: The Big Show

Marty:

Ok time for a little rant…

What in the hell is a chairs match?!

It’s a match where you can use a chair to beat on the other guy.

So it’s a Hardcore Match?

Nope, you can only use Chairs to attack your opponent.

>_>

The Chair’s match is probably the most retarded stipulation you can think off. The most used weapon in the history of Pro Wrestling has it’s own match type and by god WWE needs to use it in the show called TLC. Because you know, the name is Tables, Ladders and Chairs. So we need all three of those matches as stipulations…Even from a standpoint of the feud between Henry and Show it makes little sense, those two hate each other and they want to tear each other limb from limb and you decided to throw them in a match where they can only use the most common danger in Wrestling. So instead of making it ‘’Extreme Rules’’ or a ‘’Street Fight’’ which has a plethora of more interesting weapons to use to screw each other up we are forced to watch 15-20 minutes of two slow guys limbering around the ring and hitting each other with chairs only. And quite honestly they really can’t get a great match out of this feud anymore how hard they will try, people have seen a ring collapse when we got the superplex from the top rope that destroyed the ring out right and caused the crowd to go absolutely apeshit for it. (I don’t care it’s a repeat from Brock either so shush.) So yeah, Big Show wants to win the World Heavyweight Championship and he wants to do a Pillmanizer on Mark Henry just like Henry did on Show himself and other superstars. That’s what I call a true and true face, eye for an eye right? Henry on the other hand wants to keep the World Title around his waist because he has grown attached to it and he has probably given it a name whilst sleeping next to it every night. Whilst Mizark has been on fire back when he  won the world title it kinda died down right now and I think Mark Henry wins this and continues his reign at least until Wrestlemania where a upcoming superstars beats the big man and gets his emotional celebration on the grandest stage of them all.

Winner: Mark Henry because Big Show with the title right now helps no-one.

Overall Winner: Mark Henry (3-1)

CM Punk vs The Miz vs Alberto Del Rio

Addy Mac:

CM Punk will win and for one reason and one reason only….Chris Jericho. I personally think that Jericho is going to return on Raw after the new year, all thanks to John Laurinaitis who signed Jericho to a huge deal to bring him back to get rid of Punk. We then have the ‘Best in the World’ versus ‘Best in the World’ in Jericho vs Punk at Mania. Miz has Truth to feud with in the near future so I can’t see him winning and Del Rio has gone from one of the hottest acts in wrestling entertainment to being kind of stale thanks to lame title runs.

Winner and still WWE Champion: CM Punk

Tom:

Epic build up for this match… “BORING!” “REALLY?!” “DEEESTINY!” This one feels pretty much like a Punk win, but I want to believe that Mr. Laryngitis (you know the guy, the Executive Vice President of Talent Relations and Interim Raw General Manager… yeah, that guy) will redeem himself as the evil boss with some tricks up his sleeve. After all, he is creative… right? Anybody taking bets on the title suddenly rising when Punk goes for it? No? Didn’t think so.. I’ll go with Punk for the win here, doesn’t feel like Del Rio will win it and Miz is just sort of there to make up numbers it seems.

Winner and still WWE Champion: CM Punk

Gavin:

I think this will be a really interesting match and probably the one I’m most looking forward to. Clearly Miz and Del Rio will do the old “start off working together then turn on each other” routine which is when it gets good. I think Punk will retain the title (don’t get me wrong I’m not one of these CM Punk sheep that have only started liking him since he started speaking out) which will probably see Del Rio out of the title picture for a bit and Miz be back in it.

Winner and still WWE Champion: CM Punk

Marty:

So CM Punk is a renegade Champion, he does awesome things like say the word Ass on TV and cracking jokes about how Lawtunga has silly blazers and Alberto del Rio is a broken record and stuff… all prime television which should deserve a few awards. So yeah Alberto del Rio doesn’t like to be called boring because as he hasn’t stated enough yet, it has become his destiny to win the WWE Championship (again). And John Laurinaitis Vice President of Talent Relations and the Interim General Manager of RAW is interested in helping the Mexican Aristocrat become reach his Destiny (again) and give the WWE a champion they can be proud of. All well and good and such, but Johnny Ace has been pushed as the most useless Heel General Manager in a long long while. I mean he is supposed to be a bad guy, he has Lawtunga next to him to drink coffee and wear blazers and he uses Alberto del Rio to become the Champion he wants to have. But for a Heel General Manager he does fuck all to actually make it happen, the only thing he does is make a crappy stipulation where CM Punk loses the title if Punk himself gets DQ’d. Instead of really stacking the odds against CM Punk he still keeps the odds reasonably level which in turn means CM Punk goes over clean against Berto and the rest causing this entire storyline become extremely boring. A proper Heel GM would stack the odds good against his target and make the chances for his superstars extremely good. Where are the impromptu No-DQ matches where CM Punk suddenly gets swamped in heel lackeys and beaten to a pulp? Where are the unfair Handicap matches where Punk gets wailed over the entire match by 2-3 guys where he has no chance? Johnny Ace doesn’t want CM Punk to run his mouth on everything and throwing ‘’pipe-bombs’’ with reckless abandon, but Ace doesn’t do crap about it. Make Punk get wailed on a month and have him pull a win out of the bag when all hope seems lost. Have him lose on RAW weekly due to Shenanigans and have him win against all odds at a PPV when the title is on the line. It makes Ace become hated because he never gives Punk a fair chance and tries to censor him. And it helps Punk even more because he fights the odds and comes out on top when all hope seems lost and have him fight to say the stuff he wants to say. To make it simple, free reign Punk is boring as hell. And jellyspined Ace with crappy booking around him is also boring and a waste of a potentially effective Heel GM… In short, nobody gets over. Oh and The Miz is also part of the match, he has a huge edge right now because he attacked a schizophrenic person and he also ‘’destroyed’’ JoMo because he stole Miz’s lunch and thus got Future Endeavoured to TNA. Miz kinda got shoehorned into this match, he won’t win but he will probably get a good run in the middle of the match so everyone can see that Miz has become super serial and he wants the title again. But don’t expect that to happen at TLC.

Winner: CM Punk, He is the only one who looks like winning. Alberto hasn’t been looking strong at all and The Miz is just there until he can get a proper story going. The optimist in me hopes John Laurinaitis the Vice President of Talent Relations and the Interim General Manager of RAW shows up and finally does some proper heel shit and cause Punk to have to defy odds stacked firmly in Berto’s favour.

Overall Winner: CM Punk (4-0)

…and that’s all folks from the Mat Pack. The general consensus seems to think the majority of the results are easy to predict with three of the six matches getting a 4-0 from the Mat Pack. Only one match was split down the middle with Orton and Barrett both receiving two votes each. Let the games commence. Don’t forget to check back daily for the latest news, gossip and exciting columns.
