Night of Champions, 19th September, 2010

Hailing from the Allstate Arena in Chigago and origionally aired on 19th September 2010, this Night Of Champions pay per view saw every championship on the line and one unification, but how many would change hands? If previous promises of championship pay per views are anything to go by, not many!

Kicking off the night with the Intercontinental Championship match, champion Dolph Ziggler; accompanied to the ring by his ‘girlfriend’ Vicky Guerrero and her NXT rookie Kaitlyn, faces the electrifying Kofi Kingston. Obviously fan fave for the match, Kofi comes out to a huge ovation and gets the crowd immediately fired up for the match, which is decent but nothing to write home about.

Edge is backstage getting ready for his match when he’s interrupted by Todd Grisham who asks how he feels about the forthcoming 6-pack challenge. Edge obviously says he’s going to win it and walk out the new WWE Champion!

CMPunk comes out to a hometown welcome of half boos and half cheers as they really don’t know how to take their hometown hero gone bad (and unfortunately he’s still dragging that pet beard around with him!) As he goes to speak on the mic there is a CMPunk chant rising from the hardcore fans in the rafters of ther arena! He says he LOVES Chicago, the history, the skyline, the museums but what he hates and despises is the inhabitats of Chicago! And for more boil-in-the-bag instant heat he slags off the white sox!
The match between him and Big Show isn’t very long but for what it is it’s a decent outing, I suppose it does explain the mic time Punk was given before-hand!

It’s at this point I realise just how much the WWE needs Chris Jericho back as soon as possible when he’s interviewed backstage by Josh Matthews! Come back Chris all is forgiven!!

I really don’t like watching Daniel Bryan. Am I stupid? Maybe. Is he boring? Maybe. I just think he’s bland, nothing exciting and I really just can’t be bothered to watch him! I know I should and believe me I have tried since everyone else is telling me he is a God of the indies, but still my opinion is not changing! I feel like the little boy in the crowd in ‘The Emporer’s New Clothes’, the only one who dare say he’s actoually naked… or boring in this case! And as much as I believe the Miz is indeed Awesome… I just can’t suffer watching Bryan twice in one night!

Backstage Josh Matthews has found a rather happy looking John Cena to interview and oh boy the guys in the crowd don’t like him much… again!

The Lumberjill unification match leaves a sour taste in my mouth since I really can’t stand that Barbie-looking Diva’s championship belt and think it’s pretty naff that they unified the Women’s belt when what they should have done was thrown the Diva’s one in the bin! I’m not a fan of women’s matches so when they’re all out there.. PLEASE! you expect me to watch that?! LOL

Grisham draws the short straw and has to interview Wade Barrett, poor Todd always looks like he’s about to pee himself.. do they hire small announcers and interviewers on purpose or something?

Undertaker vs Kane is of course another history-in-the-making sort of a match up. They’re fighting for World Heavyweight Championship but also for the right to be known as the better, more powerful of the two brothers! As a No Holds Barred match it is full of all the spots you can expect from these two veterans of the ring and, even though I’m no Undertaker fan, I think it is damned good they got to have what could be classed as one last run together.

Poor Todd has to interview Randy Orton next, asking if he has anything to say to the other 5 competitors in the 6 Pack Challenge he holds the mic like some bullied school boy waiting for Orton to speak…

Tag Team Turmoil isn’t what it used to be that’s for sure! I remember the days…
OK so it’s alright I suppose. I like The Usos muchos!! (They are definately more Rocky than Rikishi!) And I will always be a mark for Drew McIntyre. Santino is still funny, who’d have thought that he and Koslov would even still be employed by the end of 2010 yet there they are! Cody Rhodes? Blergh! Evan Bourne? Blergh! Hart Dynasty? Blergh! Mark Henry? Don’t even get me started! It’s a decent match, I’ve seen better tag team matches but I’m a slave to the Attitude Era!

It comes to something when Cena is booed worse than the cowardly heel when they come to the ring for the 6 pack Challenge! Chi-Town obviously doesn’t harbour many members of the ‘Cenation’ then huh?

The 6 pack Challenge is basically an elimination match, 6 superstars start and they are all in the ring together until one remains and that one will be Neo.. I mean the WWE Champion! It takes them forever to get to the ring and THEN the announcer spends another 5 minutes announcing them all. It was like waiting for Triple H vs Undertaker to kick off!
I think it’s very cool that Wade Barrett got to be in this match full of established stars (and Sheamus! Sarcasm becomes me!) and I did enjoy seeing the likes of Cena, Edge, Jericho and Orton in the ring at the same time again!

I think the pay Per View was most certainly saved by the 6 Pack Challenge at the end, a lot of the matches seemed like fillers and Punk vs Show seemed just to have been thrown on there because it was in Chicago. There is however another home video exclusive (a Kane interview) which always gains points with me when it hasn’t been shown anywhere else.
If you’re a collector buy it, if you’ve already seen it I’d probably say only buy it if you’re loaded and got nothing better to spend your money on!

6/10
