Tossing Salt – Worldwide News
June 25, 2012
Doug Maynard
What up Peeps? I’m back!!
Welcome to “Tossing Salt – Worldwide News”. Yeah, I know it’s been a while and I’m a major slack-ass, but I’m back (for now) with all the action, all the excitement, all the energy, all the charisma that is “WWE Monday Night RAW Supershow” (and probably “Big Bang Theory” too). Not so much a play-by-play recap of the show. There are billions and billions of those things all over the internet and even though I am a pretty good recapper (I’m not one to blow my own horn, but toot toot!), this will be more of just a running dialogue of the show as it progresses. So I might talk about what happens on the TV screen and occasionally, I might veer off into other directions and topics. Doesn’t that sound like fun? Of course it does.
RIght now I’m roughly an hour away from the start of RAW. We’re three weeks away from the 1000th episode and damn, it’s been a helluva ride. I’ve seen the majority of the showsand I’m actually looking forward to seeing what Vinnie-Mac and company have in store for us in the next few weeks as we head into a new era of the WWE and sports-entertainment. I’m going to make some predictions for what will happen on the 1000th show and (who) will be popping up.
I think we’ll see a full DX reunion with HHH, HBK and those two wild and crazy guys, The Road Dogg and Billy Gunn. DX is already advertised to appear with just Shawn and HHH being mentioned. But with Road Dogg working backstage for the WWE as a “Producer / Agent” and Billy Gunn only being a phone call away, it would just make sense. And hell, add X-Pac (Sean Waltman) to the mix as well. He’s on good terms with the WWE these days too and was recently helping them out down in Florida at FCW. So bring on Degeneration X and the entire gang.
Well, not the entire gang as I seriously doubt we’ll see Chyna pop up. That would be a major surprise. Considering the heat that she has with Waltman, HHH, Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon and the WWE in general, I think it’s safe to say that Hulk Hogan, Eric Bischoff and Ole Anderson would be more welcome right now than she would be.
I’ve also got a feeling that for the 1000th show, we’ll get a big return in a big way from a former WWE / WCW / NWA legend and true icon and Hall of Famer. He’s not working for the opposition anymore and I don’t think a minor thing like a lawsuit will stop it from happening. I think that the audience at RAW on the big night will be doing a lot of “Woooooos” as “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair returns to the WWE one more time. And since Arn is there working backstage and the WWE is on good terms with Tully, Barry, Malenko and even “The Total Package” Lex Luger these days, why not an on-screen / on camera face off in the middle of that wrestling ring between the members of DX (as noted earlier) and The Horsemen. That’s a big time TV moment waiting to happen and who wouldn’t love to see DX in the ring, doing their schtick about being “the greatest wrestling clique of all time”, only to be interrupted by Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, Barry Windham, Dean Malenko and Lex Luger… The Horsemen.
Think about it! In the same ring, Degeneration X and The Horsemen. We get some friendly bantering and back and forth promos and then they could have Heath Slater lead a pack of jabronis to the ring to get rid of the old guys. Then the Horsemen and DX could combine forces, have a quick brawl with the Slater-troops and clear the ring and we get the mutual respect / hugs and kisses segment as DX and The Horsemen celebrate together. It’s just too good to ignore and needs to happen. And the 1000th episode of RAW, which also incidentially happens to be the first full time 3-hour episode of RAW, would be the perfect place to make it happen.
As for the other “surprises” on RAW in a few weeks, I’m sure we’ll see Bret Hart, Mick Foley, Edge, Trish Stratus and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin all pop up if not on the big show, then in the weeks leading up to it. And of course we’ll get Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar, helping to build up and hype SummerSlam and the match against HHH. But do you know who I really want to see?
Besides, Ivory and Molly Holly (who I doubt will be there, but it’d be nice), I’d like to see the WWE’s original Diva, Tammy Sytch. I know that she’s planning on moving to CT and has been reaching out to the WWE about a job so maybe this will be here time and day to get her feet back in the door. Lord knows we could all use some “sunny days” in our lives again.
Okay, I’ve rambled for a bit, but it’s time to quit with the predictions and get on with the show. It’s time for WWE Monday Night RAW Supershow. I’m just going to talk and comment as the show goes along (do a running blog) for the next couple of hours. Yeah, this is internet wrestling journalism 101 here folks and the lazy man’s way to write a column, but at least I’m trying. Let’s just get to it.

Thoughts & Reactions
I just remembered that Chris Jericho is due back tonight. That’s pretty cool. And Vickie Guerrero (Excuse Me!) is the special guest General Manager for the night. Maybe I should do a running “Excuse Me” count to see how many times she says those magic words? Nah, I don’t think I’m able to count that high. But I’m sure that it will be more than ten times (at least that many). I like Vickie and I can’t help but think how proud Eddie Guerrero would be of her in the way she’s taken her role and character and really turned it into an essential part of the WWE Universe. She’s done a great job. And all with two magic words.
Okay, I missed the first segment due to a phone call and here’s AJ talking about her men. She’s really got this “crazy chick” character routine down pat. Okay, she’s talking in a mirror and practicing for “the talk” with her mens. I get it now. AJ is a freakin’ trip! Maybe she’ll end up with Zack Ryder as her man? Woo Woo Woo – you know it!
Big Show really kicked Brodus Clay’s ass last week. Tonight, we get Clay versus Show. And Cena has a big announcement. Yay!
Vickie is here and five “excuse me’s” already. She’s the GM! One more. That’s six. She wants to be the permanent GM for both RAW and Smackdown. It’s a Triple-Threat Elimination match. Daniel Bryan versus Kane versus CM Punk . The “Yes Yes Yes” chants are really kicking it tonight. Great way to start off the show and get the fans / ratings pumped.
Not a bad match-up and I hate to admit it, but even with Kane involved, the chemistry between these three guys is really good. Lots of “Woo” chants when Punk chopped Bryan. Hear that, Vince? All three men are on their A-game tonight. Here comes AJ again and the distraction costs Kane the match. Bryan gets in a shot and wins the match. ‘Tres cool! Fun match andAj still managed to make her “crazy little child” impact.
Del Rio and Ricardo kiss up to AJ. And here is Dolph to “steal the show”. Dolph is doing the “one more shot” gimmick. One more “excuse me”. That’s “seven” so far. And we’re only 25 minutes into the show. We get a “title shot on a pole” match between Del Rio and Ziggler and the winner fights Sheamus on Friday Night Smackdown. Dolph doesn’t like flowers.
We get Big Show versus Brodus Clay up next. This is Clay’s chance to escape the lame-ass “Funkasaurus” gimmick and be a legit bad-ass. I think someone needs to call Clay’s mama though. He’s gonna get his tail whipped.
Brodus Clay is dancing? Why? He’s preparing to fight the man who kicked his ass big time a few weeks ago. Forget the stupid crap. Brodus needs to be serious right now. This kind of thing just annoys the hell out of me. At least Show is playing it seriously. I like how Show is playing it legit and using actual wrestling science to work on the injured knee of Clay. At last Clay showed a little fire at the end of the match, but it was a Big Show sqush for the most part. Stick a fork in Clay. He’s done!
John Cena did his 300th “Make-A-Wish” appearance last week. That’s awesome. Love him or hate him, no one can deny that Cena has a big heart and is a great representative for the WWE.
Chris Jericho versus Bob Barker… They need to make that match for Wrestlemania. Good to see Chavo Guerrero again too, even if it is in a cameo. Show came back out and gave Brodus Clay the big K.O. punch during the break. And now we get to hear from HHH about the whole Brock Lesnar / Paul Heyman situation. HHH wants a match at SummerSlam and then laid out Paul Heyman last week on RAW when Paul said that infamous word, “No!”. HHH still wants that match. Paul Heyman is such a weasal. We need more of him on RAW and in the WWE. Brock will be on RAW next week to answer HHH’s challenge.
And of course the answer will be…
AJ is back and she’s still nuts and having a heart-to-heart with Kane. It’s not good for Kane because he’s not “boyfriend material”. He doesn’t do “relationships!”. Even Kane finds AJ “mentally unstable” and gives her the big dump off. She’s smiling at first, but here comes the tears… no, she’s laughing. This gal is freakin’ nuts. I like it!
Jack Swagger is here to face Santino. Should be a fun, but quick match. The U.S. title is on the line. I’m saying it now. New champion tonight. Go Swagger!! By the way, did Ryder ever get his “rematch” title shot when he lost the belt to Swagger? I don’t think he did. Santino hits a “Cobra” and Swagger is through. DAMN! I guess I was wrong about a title change. We need to see Ryder versus Santino for the U.S. Title. That would be good.
Diva Battle Royal later tonight. We see a Zack Ryder cameo as Mr. Woo Woo Woo gets a high-five from John Cena. Looks like Cena is headed to the ring. It’s “history making big announcement” time. Maybe he’ll tell us that The Brooklyn Brawler is coming back. Hmmmmm! That would be cool. Probably not though. Guess we’ll find out in a few after the commercials. I want to see that new movie, “Ted”. It looks funny.
Here comes John Cena. It’s not even 10:00 yet. Damn, this has been a long hour. The Cena segment had better be good!
Cena is just recapping the whole Johnny-Ace era, at least the parts where the Big Show is involved. He does it in “Star Wars” fashion. Lame, but still kind of funny. Okay, I lied. It’s not funny. Just lame. Okay, I take that back. The “Yoda McMahon” impression is funny.
And here comes Chris Jericho. Break The Walls Down!!! But is this good Y2J or bad Y2J. I like how Michael Cole explains Jericho’s absence by saying he was on tour with Fozzy. No mention of South America or desecrating flags at all. Why not? What does WWE have to hide?
Big pop for Jericho. He wants to know what Cena is talking about and tells Cena to “shut the hell up!”. This is Jericho’s night. Damn, Jericho looks tired as hell. The man looks rough! John Cena will be in the “Money In The Bank” match. Wow! Big news indeed! Jericho mocks Cena’s PG attitude and arrogance. Y2J invented the Money In The Bank match and he’s going to be in this year’s match too. Jericho really puts over the M.I.T.B. match and plays up the big time seriousness of the match. Really great promo by Y2J.
Here’s Vickie. Two more “excuse me’s”. One more. There will be two matches at M.I.T.B. No one can place themselves in the matches. Vickie is laying down the law. Y2J with a subtle “suspend” reference. I like it. Only former WWE Champions will be in the RAW match. Kane, Big Show, Chris Jericho and John Cena will be WWE title M.I.T.B. Cena gets smart and Vickie with another “Excuse Me!”. She makes the main event and it’s Y2J versus John Cena in the main event. She just hit # 10.
We see Vader from two weeks ago and Roddy Piper / Mick Foley from last week. We’ve got another comeback coming up. I wonder how bad Heath Slater will be humiliated this week. I’m liking these old-timer comebacks. They say it’s been 15 years since this person was on RAW. I haven’t had the chance to read any spoilers today so I’m going to just make a random guess. I don’t have a clue so since I mentioned him earlier, how about Lex Luger? Either Lex or Sid Vicious. Those are my guesses. We’ll find out when the commercials end.
Here comes Heath Slater. I’m liking this character he’s playing. It won’t get him over in the long run, but still, it’s pretty neat. I can’t wait to see him get his butt kicked again. He looks like the Wendy’s girl on steroids. He rules the world. That means Sid Vicious.
AWESOME!!! I was guessing, but I like it. Sid still looks pretty potent. Sloppy (dangerous) wrestling though. SQUASH!!! You know who I’d like to see make a big return for one night? Dr. Issak Yankum! That would be kool.
Diva Battle Royal plus John Cena versus Chris Jericho all coming up later on. The new “Falls Count Anywhere” DVD looks like it will be good and pretty damn exciting. Hey Paps, if you need someone to do a review of that one, get me a copy and I’ll be glad to do it. Hell, if anyone sends me a copy, I’ll do a recap of it and full review. Just saying.
It’s contract on a pole match. I thought these things died with WCW. It’s Del Rio versus Dolph. I think that Ricardo will end up getting involved and winning the match for Del Rio. After all, what else is he good for? I think they need a “Vickie on a Pole” match. This is actually an entertaining match and far better than any “on a pole” match has a right to be. It’s going to be a “Triple Threat” match on Smackdown for the World title. Sheamus makes the announcement. So we don’t get a match finish, but we get a great match on Friday. I guess it’ll work.
Everyone wants to see AJ with CM Punk. Why not? After all, he likes crazy chicks. I’d still rather see her with Zack Ryder. After all, Woo Woo Woo’s need love too. Too bad Sid Vicious wasn’t here earlier. AJ and Sid = a relationship that is just made to be. We see AJ and Punk having “a talk”. She’s going to dedicate her match to him tonight. CM Punk wants a serious conversation. She (AJ) wants to take things to the next level, but first she has to win the Battle Royal.
I wish we’d get some real Divas here to compete in the Battle Royal and actually make it interesting. Yes, Lita, Ivory, Molly and Jacqueline… I’m talking about you!!
Mikc Foley loved doing “This is Your Life” with The Rock. It was the highest rated segment in RAW history so I guess everyone else loved it too. I thought it was okay!
Here comes Vickie and she’s going to be part of the Diva’s Battle Royal. She suggests that everyone get on her good side and Vickie does a cougar-esqe striptease. All the Divas go after Vickie and then everyone breaks loose. It’s a real slobberknocker. Vickie is left with AJ and Layla near the end. It’s AJ and Vickie. Vickie celebrates and AJ does the psycho routine. AJ tackles Vickie and Vickie gets dumped. AJ wins the Battle Royal and the GM has no more “excuse me’s” to offer. I’m sad. Vickie has really lost a lot of weight and actually looks really decent in the body department. Good for her!
Next Tuesday (my birthday) has a live Smackdown on SyFy celebrating The Great American Bash. What a great present for me? Thank you Vince. I really do appreciate it. The only thing better would be birthday cake with Juventud Guerrera popping out of it. That would be NICE! But I’ll settle for a live show on SyFy too. And Zack Ryder as the WWE Champion. Nah, I don’t want much.
I love Chris Jericho’s jacket. It’s like a “Lite Brite” explosion. Damn, the bags under Jericho’s eyes are the size of Big Show’s ass-cheeks. Get some damn rest, Chris. You looking rough dude! That was actually a good match until the end. Damn you, Big Show. I like how Jericho looked as if he was upset, but then offered up Cena to the Big Show. Jericho was (is) awesome. Big Show and Cena… YAWN! A good show, but the ending sucks.
And there you go. This wasn’t a great show by any means, but it wasn’t bad either. It was steady, even paced and just good enough to be watchable. I didn’t expect to see Sid appear and that was cool. He still sucks as a wrestler (sloppy moves – I hope Slater didn’t get injured by that sloppy-ass powerbomb), but after so long an absence, even a few minutes of Sid Vicious can be enjoyable.
If they’re going to keep bringing in older stars for matches over the next few weeks, here are some suggestions. How about Tommy Dreamer, The Sandman, “The Living Legend” Larry Zbyszko (will never happen), The Honky Tonk Man, Abdullah The Butcher, Greg “The Hammer” Valentine and The Horsemen (see my earlier suggestion). And I want William Regal as the “General Manager” for one of the weeks – cause he’s awesome and deserves to be back on TV again.
And what else can I say? I can’t think of anything else and I’ve got things to do. I wonder if that sexy ass dude up the street is still awake? I need a good massage and he’s got strong hands. So I’m out of here. I’ll be back in a few days (I hope) with an edition of “Wrestling Fact Or Fiction”. No, Mr. Russell – I haven’t forgotten about that column. I’ve just had issues, but it’s time to get back into the swing of things.
Thanks to everyone for reading this column and hopefully, it’s the start of a new beginning and I can become a regular part of your wrestling life once more over the next few weeks. I’m going to try.
