Newsflash

The PPV numbers are in for WrestleMania 24, and they are considerably lower than wwe and Floyd Mayweather expected. WrestleMania 24 drew 1,058,000 buys which works out to $23.8 million. This is less than last year’s 1,200,000 buys and $24.4 million for WrestleMania 23. The numbers were released this morning with WWE’s first quarter earnings report, which had the company listed as pulling in $19.5 million in net earnings over the first quarter of 2008.

XWA WAR ON THE SHORE PRESS RELEASE

XWA’s biggest event of the year – War On The Shore IV: The Anniversary Show, is just days away!

This night of celebration (five years and 25 shows in the Morecambe area, and the first anniversary of XWA) is bound to create a party atmosphere inside The Dome, arguably British wrestling’s premier venue, this Saturday night, April 12 2008. And with two long-awaited British Championship matchups, a brutal no disqualification brawl between two of the UK scene’s most intense competitors, and the XWA debut of one of the country’s most talked-about and ruthless tag teams, WOTS IV could well turn out to be the greatest night ever in Morecambe wrestling history….so be there!

 RINGSIDE ENFORCER NAMED!

XWA boss Greg Lambert promised that in the main event of War On The Shore IV:The Anniversary Show there would be no repeat of the controversy that marred the end of Goldrush, no outside interference and that justice would be done.

To that end, Greg has appointed a special guest ringside enforcer for the British Heavyweight Championship match between ‘The Wonderkid’ Jonny Storm and ‘Mr Deal or No Deal’ Stevie Knight. Someone whose task will be to assist the XWA’s head referee Richard Young, patrol the ringside area, prevent anyone from interfering in the match and ensure a fair and uncontroversial outcome.

That man is ‘The Heavyweight House of Pain’ Stixx.

Stixx made his return to the XWA at Goldrush, as the hired henchman of Stevie Knight in his war against Sam Slam. But that partnership turned out to be short-lived, when Knight stabbed Stixx in the back during the Goldrush and eliminated the Nottingham bruiser, leading to a devastating retaliation when Stixx flattened Stevie with a piledriver. Incidentally, although the piledriver is banned in the XWA, Stixx had already been eliminated from the Goldrush rumble – so he was not punished for his actions as they came outside the confines of a match situation.

Now Stixx has been named as the ringside enforcer for his title shot on April 12, ‘The Shining Light’ could well have a case to claim that Greg Lambert is stacking the odds against him. Certainly there is no love lost between ‘Mr Deal Or No Deal’ and the XWA owner. But then again, Knight should perhaps count himself lucky that he is in the British Heavyweight Title match in the first place, seeing as though he was thrown over the top rope by Sam Slam – behind the officials’ backs – and was therefore extremely fortunate to get his hand raised at Goldrush.

As for Stixx, who has made his career on selling his soul to the highest bidder, his intentions towards his role on April 12 remain a mystery. Will he be seduced once again by the wealth of ‘Mr Deal or No Deal’? Will he favour Jonny Storm? Or will he call it right down the middle? All will be revealed on the night of The Anniversary Show.

One thing’s for certain, War On The Shore will be an extremely busy night for Stixx because ‘The Heavyweight House of Pain’ has also agreed to wrestle a singles match before he returns to enforce the main event. His opponent, WAW’s masked second generation star, the conniving Zak Zodiac. Stixx v Zak Zodiac completes the card for The Anniversary Show…and what an impressive line-up it is too.
