Newsflash

The PPV numbers are in for WrestleMania 24, and they are considerably lower than wwe and Floyd Mayweather expected. WrestleMania 24 drew 1,058,000 buys which works out to $23.8 million. This is less than last year’s 1,200,000 buys and $24.4 million for WrestleMania 23. The numbers were released this morning with WWE’s first quarter earnings report, which had the company listed as pulling in $19.5 million in net earnings over the first quarter of 2008.

1PW!
The 1PW group has perhaps its most diverse array of US talent appearing in Doncaster on 19 April, with AJ Styles, Sandman, Rene Dupree, Davey Richards, Rod Strong and Iron Sheik all appearing. Styles takes on Darren Burridge in what is billed as a triple main event also featuring regular import Sterling James Keenan against Martin Stone, and an eight man 'Damned to Hell' match, the stipulations of which will be announced on the night. Britwres.com is reporting the promotion has gained permission from local authorities for the Sandman to smoke: such behaviour is technically illegal inside public buildings but can be exempt when part of an artistic performance.

HAS-
El Hijo Del Santo and Blue Demon Jr lead a 16-strong brigade of grapplers appearing at Lucha Libre London, a series of shows in the capital this summer. They'll be appearing nightly from Friday 4 through Sunday 6 July (with an extra matinee show on the Saturday) at the Camden Roundhouse. It's the third time Lucha stars have visited in the UK, though the previous events consisted of a single exhibition match, one in the Tate Gallery and two others at the University of Essex. Unlike those shows, which were free and $10 respectively, this event is priced at $40 to $150 per show, which seems particularly ambitious given four dates in the same venue.

IT'S VERY OWN?
The WAW group is running its own version of the Floyd Mayweather angle, presenting a tag bout with local boxer Earl Ling and Zebra Kid against Sam Slam and Karl Krammer, stemming from Ling officiating a Zebra-Slam bout last month. The match, at Norwich's The Talk venue on 18 May, will be an MMA-style 'shootfight' held inside a very local version of the UFC Octagon: a construction workers' cage!

WHILE-
While the Real Quality Wrestling group continues to draw extremely disappointing live crowds, there's some bright news. The $&M online radio show announced the promotion has signed a deal to provide daily programming for German television (featuring current and archive shows). Owner Len Davies is also setting up a purpose-built permanent training facility in Dagenham.

CONTINUES-
The All Star schedule continues at a busy pace with 88 arena shows already booked for the rest of the year, including 25 in October alone. Perhaps the most anticipated comes on 5 May when Danny Collins, arguably among Britain's finest stars in the final years of the TV era, returns to his home town of Bristol for the first time since coming out of retirement last November. He'll team with brother Pete against an as-yet unnamed team.

INVITED-
Former wrestlers are invited to the annual Northern reunion on May 25 at the Ellesmere Port Labour Club. Unlike the Kent event held each August, this gathering is open only to grapplers and their immediate family. For more details call Jonathan Barnes on 07876 518487.
