Newsflash

The PPV numbers are in for WrestleMania 24, and they are considerably lower than wwe and Floyd Mayweather expected. WrestleMania 24 drew 1,058,000 buys which works out to $23.8 million. This is less than last year’s 1,200,000 buys and $24.4 million for WrestleMania 23. The numbers were released this morning with WWE’s first quarter earnings report, which had the company listed as pulling in $19.5 million in net earnings over the first quarter of 2008.

Why Should We Order WrestleMania? PDF Print E-mail

Well? Why should we? I was debating whether or not to order it, if I don't it'll be the first time in 8 years that I haven't seen WrestleMania so I decided to put it down one match at a time to help me make my mind up. (Even though my kids will go crazy if I don't get it!) Is it going to be worth the money? On previous occasions I always order it and regret it when it's finished, it never lives up to the hype they put out. No amount of billboards, blimps and bunnies is going to change the fact that the card, for me anyway, is pretty damn poor to say the least considering this is supposed to be the biggest WWE show of the year. I can understand them trying to get new fans, WrestleMania virgins if you will, and even the most removed people have heard of WrestleMania some way or another, but once they get these people to tune in & pay the bucks for the privilege, surely they have to give them something that is going to make them tune in to the following night's Raw & the next Friday’s Smackdown... and the next week's... and the week's after that too right? I can't see what on this card is going to grab a 'new' fan and make them tune in again. It's just my opinion and what do I know... I’m just a dumb girlie-fan.....

BunnyMania Lumberjack Match... repeats it, say it slowly and digest the concept. What in the blue bollox?? They want me to PAY for this? No Deal.
Finlay vs JBL - Belfast Brawl. Oh dear. Not getting much better so far. I agree JBL is much better suited to Finaly's style of wrestling than Jericho's... or anyone else's actually... infact can I say JBL and wrestling in the same sentence? I’m just singing and dancing that he's finally NOT in the ring with Chris Jericho (I wonder if Chris is doing the same?) Jericho is good... he's awesome... he's NOT a miracle worker. I have no interest in Finlay, no interest in JBL, No Deal.

24 Man Battle Royal- Winner faces The ECW champion. Ok so this has SOME potential and the Battle Royal's are always a good way of getting some faces onto Mania that don't have a match... but, who's in this match? The Great Kh... oh for God's sake. No Deal!

Batista Vs Umaga. Smackdown Vs Raw... Oh the excitement!!!!!!! Please note utter and complete sarcasm in that statement, I think my money is still safe in my purse. I kind of like Umaga.. I kind of can't stand Batista.. Ok not just kind of I really really can't stand Batista. No Deal! No way! No how!
Big Show vs Some Boxer guy that I'd only vaguely heard of until he wandered around with Mysterio for a cheap plug. I suppose it's the 18-25 male demographic yet again. I can't stand boxing I think it's barbaric. Call me what you will but why two men would want to give each other brain damage for money is beyond me. You could argue that this happens in wrestling as well, but to me boxing is so much more brutal and dare I say real? I hate it. Mayweather does nothing for me. So far I’m still keeping my money! Noooooo Deal.

HBK Vs Flair has been a mutual a$s-kissing barf-worthy storyline for the past three weeks & I can't stomach any more! I just want Shawn to deck him every time they're on screen together & I’m still hoping for a hogan-esque Superkick on Raw next week but I'd be dead if I held my breath! All that know me know how much I love Shawn, but the constant 'I love you's' and 'you're the man's' and 'respect respect respect' yadder yadder shut up already!! Kick Flair's ass so he can go home, get married some more and wander around his house in his robes 'woo-ing' his little heart out all day! As a huge mark for Michaels I’m almost ashamed to say it but... No Deal. As much as I would love to watch Shawn kick Flair's baggy saggy old backside into retirement I still can not justify paying out the money.

Money In The Bank Ladder Match. I know this will be awesome regardless, what I also fear is that MVP is going to win. Don't get me wrong I actually LIKE MVP but there are other guys in this match that I'd rather see with that briefcase, such as... anyone but him and Shelton perhaps? Kennedy SHOULD win it, but I wouldn't be complaining if Punk won it, or Carlito, or Jericho, or Morison.. or Matt Hardy. Um.. yeah sorry I mean that spot isn't being replaced right? Riiiight!!! They could change its name from Money In The Bank to 'Money On The Right Brother'! Although I know I would mark from start to finish during this match I’m still keeping my money. I guess my decision is already made. No Deal. (Although I think this will definatly be match of the night providing Shelton doesn't attempt to run the ropes, jump off the turnbuckle or leap-frog anything or anyone because... it never works out for that guy does it?!)

Edge Vs Undertaker has classic match written all over it. I hope it is. I don't think my favourite EdgeMeister is going to walk away with the title under one arm and Undertaker's Mania streak in his back pocket but we shall see. If Edge wins & cleanly at that, I'll eat... my left shoe! I expect either the 'Edge-Heads' to be banned from ringside or foiled in any attempt to interfere for Edge's benefit, unless they're screwing something up to give Undertaker the advantage! Although I would love for Edge to win, on the other side of the coin I really don't see why they should end Undertaker's streak at this point in his career. Yes it would benefit Edge to have this on his resume but does he need it? I think Undertaker should go out with his streak intact, a record waiting to be broken! I'd like to say this would clinch the 'deal' but I can not justify shelling out that amount of money for three matches. Sorry Edge... No Deal!

Cena/Orton/HHH, I don't really care.... they haven't given me a reason to give a $hit!!! I’m astounded the way this whole match has been built up ie with barely any thought at all as if it'll just build its self up!! Cena is one of my fave wwe stars and yet this match just has yawn written all over it. No offence to any of the guys in it it's just been done before... too many times! If Cena goes over all the Cena haters that conveniently forgot they hated him when he appeared at the Rumble, will come crawling out again booing and jeering him and it really will do him no favours. Couple that with the fact that he's still shooting for The Marine 2 ...um I mean '12 Rounds Of The Marine', or was it 'Marine does New York' or Marine on Holiday? Marine Changes jobs but still has a dumb-a$sed wife?  Anyway he wouldn't be doing any house shows for a while and I think they need their champ at these shows! I would like to see Orton hang on to his title and they should finally start treating him like a champion instead of an after-thought. Both he and Edge have had ridiculous amounts of DQ finishes or 'cheat-to-win' situations and these are the two guys who are supposed to be spearheading the company? Of course... they're heels so, they are there to be crapped on a weekly basis apparently. And then we have Triple H/Hunter/The Cerebral Assassin... or more commonly known as 'The Son-In Law'. For all folks complain about him he hasn't had that belt for quite some time now. Maybe he has withdrawal... Deal or no Deal? Ha yeah. No Deal.

I do believe Matt Hardy will return in some form during the MITB match. I’m still holding out he has that last spot. I believe John (He'll always be Nitro to me!) Morisson (Is it two 'R's or two 'S's?) wouldn't be in the match had it not been for Jeff Hardy's unscheduled holiday and I think they had that spot saved for Hardy all along. They're playing it down because they're sick of spoilers flowing around Cyber Space faster than Chyna can prove she's a woman and therefore are saying they are ditching the last spot. Clever. But where they screwed the pooch with this one is having Hardy appear at house shows already I mean what ARE they thinking? It'd have been such a feel-good moment for Matt to just show up at Mania and none of us has a clue he was even ready to return and now... they have shot themselves in the foot once again. Do they not think Matt is a big enough star to warrant a Mania surprise return? If that's the case they need to look at their current ACTIVE roster and then look at the reaction Matt gets every single time his music hits that tron! Everyone deserves a second chance, but do they deserve a third? Fourth? When does it stop?

Second is enough and Matt could have his right now! He may have had a little wobble from the track for a while during the whole Edge/Lita thing but come on the WWE used him and it to milk all they could from it so it wasn't a total loss! Had he not been so open and then subsequently fired we'd never have had the 'we want Matt' marks yelling at every show and building this up to fever point! PUSH MATT HARDY! That's my new chant. Hear me at a WWE show near you! haha ;-) Matt Hardy has been solid and reliable and (almost) never let them down so what is the deal here? I hope it's not a case of 'Val Venis syndrome' ie because he's reliable and always there they take him for granted and just leave him where he is! I know it won't happen NOW but it's just a feeling I get, call it a look into the crystal fish bowl... or something. If this isn't Hardy's year then I don't believe it ever will be and the WWE will be stupid not to take this talented, committed & hard working guy and run with him. They could do worse..

If you're ordering WrestleMania then you're a stronger and probably significantly richer person than I am! I'd like to see MITB, I'd like to see Edge Vs Undertaker and I think HBK vs Flair is even sufferable but there's no total package. For me there has to be more than two or three matches to warrant my shelling out 15 quid to Sky. I know the price has gone up in the States and I believe this year's rates aren't going to be as good as they think they are. We shall see.... or not as the case may be!
