Sweet Chin Music By Roman DuVall
I can't say that I have been a longtime fan of HBK, Shawn Michaels. I wish I had been. I believe I lost out on alot of great matches as a result.
It was only when he, and I greatly applaud him for this, came out and told the world he was a Christian, not ashamed of it and has let it be known backstage that he stands on this and will let his faith direct the angles he is involved in.
When that happened, I became a fan. Also, I saw an interview with him and Sting, who also has given his life to God, both discussing if it was possible for a Christian to be a fan of WWE Wrestling. Both said it was. I have doubted that fact over the last several years especially.
I thought HBK would have more to say with that angle some time ago with God where he was pitted in a tag team match with the Almighty. That turned my stomach and I could not understand why he went through with it. But, later the angle was quickly squashed and as he said, who knows, maybe some good might have come out of it.
I have really respected his work in DX. He has been really careful all through the run to leave the "risque" stuff to HHH. He has basically had a harmless role, one that I am sure he outlined as a condition to his participating in the reformation of DX. Wearing blindfolds, and the like.
HBK stood his ground against Hogan. Part of that feud became very personal when Hulk called out Shawn and saying his "religion was fake". Now we see later, and I am not judging here, but just stating facts, a divorce and an affair with one of his daughter's best friends. No, not HBK, but Hulk Hogan! What turned out to be fake, Shawn's faith, or Hogan's "prayers, vitamins" and wearing a Cross Necklace? Just a thought I had. You decide.
Shawn Michaels does not NEED to wrestle. He does so for the fans, period. He works alot backstage and has done nothing outside his work with DX, but put other wrestlers over. You can give credit to Orton's heel rise directly to HBK.
Just like the great Undertaker, HBK has a work ethic unmatched, is in the business for all the right reasons, and is not afraid to put front and center, in front of the camera, what he believes in and stands for, and lets that dictate how he participates in angles.
I have no idea how the match with Flair will turn out. But it will be another classic and rest assured, Flair has control. If he wants to retire, he chose HBK over all others, that says alot. If he wants to continue, a great feud with HBK may be on the horizon.
I am mulling around a recent interview with Austin, where the Rattlesnake stated that he and HBK were good friends until after Shawn came back from his back injury, then Austin said Michaels was a "pri*k" to him thereafter. Was it genuinely that way, or did Shawn's new outlook on life offend Stone Cold? Again, you decide.
I am happy to be in HBK's corner now, and will enjoy the rest of his run in the WWE no matter how long that turns out to be. I am sorry I took the wrong side in his feud with Hogan now, and sorry I missed out on an awesome career.
I look forward to the match with Flair and whatever the outcome, another classic will go in HBK's vault.
As for the burning question "Can a Christian watch the WWE?", that is up to each individual to decide. But you can rest easy and know when his music hits, you will see a WRESTLING match and one where 110% is given and more often than not, your kids can watch his matches.
That is good enough for me.
Happy Easter Everyone!
