Wrestling by ROMAN DUVALL I most likely have written my last wrestling column. I have learned another valuable lesson this week, during a discussion with my wife about a movie. Without going into detail on the personal conversation between the two of us, she made a great point. To morally judge people you do not even know, to criticize them, and especially make a decision on whether or not you like or dislike something based on BEHAVIOR of any individual, be they family or your sports or wrestling heroes or yes, even actors or actresses in movies, is just flat wrong. Think for Yourself! Only God can judge. A lesson He is teaching me every day. I feel you can like or dislike an angle, gimmick or storyline, but when go to judge the human being behind it, to me that begins to cross the line. After all, we do not "walk a mile in their shoes" so we don't know what it is like to be them or the pressures they face. It is okay to have an opinion on things, and on just about every topic you can name, I do. But, I no longer feel that I should shout my opinions from the rooftop with the idea that they are loftier than anyone else's or that I am a "know it all" on any given subject, when nothing can be farther from the truth. I learn valuable lessons each and every day on a variety of things and will always consider myself to be a student rather than a teacher and a Reader more than a Writer. Examples in my personal life. Elvis Presley. My lifelong musical hero. Will never change. He was not perfect. But if I were to judge him on the basis of OTHER'S opinions and things they have said and written, I would have missed out on a lifetime of great music and in learning about a great man. Pete Rose. Baseball hero. Always will be. He made mistakes, he paid for them and to me has righted the ship. But who am I to judge him? Give up on him because he made a mistake? Never did, never will. My BELOVED and REVERED New England Patriots. Don't have to say anymore as much as they have been raked over the coals. Give up on them because of all the accusations? Never will! See a pattern. Human beings have flaws, we all try, but the key is we all need support and loyalty during the bad times, don't jump ship or cast aside when times get bad for whatever in your lives is important to you. Never give up! Be that Family, or your hobbies and people/sports you follow. Stick with what brought you. So, I am writing this to you guys, My Mother and trusted friends, My Son, and will tell my wife, here to tell you the following, some apply to you and some don't. 1. Big KISS fan, have been since 1975 and always will be, to my son, we will Rock and Roll all Nite and party every day!!!! Dispel the rumors and enjoy the music! 2. Hulk Hogan. Addicted since 1983. He got me through some rough times as a youngster and I have recently said some very harsh and damaging things about him and thrown my allegiance away to him based upon things I have read and heard and been told by other people. Instead of doing my due diligence, thinking for myself and again applying the addage, I do not walk in his shoes and was NOT there on the beach with the Girl and do not know the full story about putting oil on his daughter. He is divorced. He has a right to date other women. I don't know the whole story on events of his personal life, and it is none of my business. All I know is during times in my young life when I had a challenge to overcome, "Real American" played in my head and I went forward and conquered, at least most of the time. So, I won't judge and for me or anyone else if Hulkamania wants to run wild, so be it. 3. The Rock. Has a right to move on. I will watch his movies and I will support him. We do not know for sure that he did not in some way congratulate Flair on a good career, he just did not do it publicly. He is a talented actor and gave his best in his prime to the WWE. I judged him solely on the Flair thing and jumping to movies and his speech at the Hall of Fame ceremony. Again "judged". Should just have enjoyed his speech, recognized he is a WWE Alum now, and it is no business of mine how he saluted Flair. May have been very personal to him. Best of luck, ROCK, on a successful movie career. I will be in the front row for them all. 3. Steve Austin. A family member in my life is a victim of domestic violence. When he went through similiar situations years ago, I was quick to judge again and cast him aside. But the whole facts of the situation will never probably be known and he was welcomed back by me and all the fans. So that matter is between him, the women affected and God. Austin fans be thankful for all he did for the business, enjoy the times when he comes back and focus on his in ring actions and for him and everyone else, don't judge the personal things or let it affect your decision to follow him or not. For those that dig Austin 3:16, again so be it. In the end, no matter what it is, who it is, personal or the things that entertain you, enjoy it all and support when times get rough, stay loyal, pray if necessary, but never cast anyone or anything aside solely on the basis of "reports", "rumors", or anything else short of FACT. So, Whatcha Gonna Do when you Smell what The Rock is Cookin and That's the Bottom line, cuz Stone Cold said so!!! Have fun in life, smile and be encouragable and support the things important to you, no matter how "bad" someone else says a situation or human being is. May God Bless you All. Roman DuVall
