TALENTED World Wrestling Entertainment champion John Cena is part of the SmackDown roster and tomorrow the co-host of the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards.

As well as his massive muscles, he is a hip-hop artist, movie star and will co-host the awards with rock star Natalie Bassingthwaite.

He will also be part of the WWE live series on FOXTEL's Main Event on November 24 and December 25 where he headlines the matches.

He is unsure if he is prepared for the reaction of the children at the awards evening tomorrow.

"I don't know if anyone can ever be ready for the show, but it will be great," he says.
"The children at the sports events are always so crazy so it will be very interesting to see what this crowd is like.
"I am also ready to get slimed - that is what the kids awards is all about."

Cena was a huge fan of WWE as a child and didn't pursue a career in wrestling until he graduated from college with a degree in Exercise Physiology.

"I was 23 years-old and found an avenue to become a professional wrestler," he says.

"If I had known about it sooner then I would have gone down that avenue earlier.

"I then enrolled in a wrestling school and was instantly hooked.

"It is certainly a profession that is attractive to young people, the basis of WWE is heroes and villains.

"As a young boy or girl is always good to root for the good guy and boo the baddie - you can't help but not.

"As a kid I wanted to either be a rock star or a professional wrestler."

The training that Cena does is very different to wrestling.

"It took me three or four years to get to the WWE and every day I am constantly learning and trying to perfect my craft," says Cena.

"To learn the fundamentals will take one to two years."

Cena closed the chapter on his body-building days once he started wrestling with WWE.

He played American football for eight years and when that athletic avenue closed, body building held him over until he decided what to do.

"I chose body building as I love being in the gym," he says.

"It also gave me a purpose behind my training and when wrestling came along I didn't need any more purpose.

"I was able to be part of something I have always wanted to do and remain an athlete."

When Cena hops into the ring he wrestles under his own name.

"I have been blessed to have fans all over the world know who I am," he says.

"I not only love what I do, I am genuine; there is no character or persona - just me."

His hero when he was growing up was Hulk Hogan and today he idolises many veterans of his profession for different reasons.

"I also came up with an ideology and came up with the blue-collared Chain Gang Soldier," says Cena.

"It is everybody coming together behind one cause and I used to wear a steel chain around my neck.

"If you were a John Cena fan you didn't have to idolise any one person, but be a member of the Chain Gang.

"I have since changed the name of the organisation to the C Nation - it is kinda like being a pro-active part of what I do.

"The fans make decisions for me and tell me what matches to go in and I try hard to get back to them all."

Comedian Comments On His 'Off-Color' Owen Hart Joke At Iron Sheik Roast

“Roundboy” Jimmy Graham, alleged comedian, has posted a blog on his MySpace page discussing the encounter between himself and Scott Hall and the Iron Sheik Roast on October 10, 2008. The entry reads as follows (all spelling errors are as they appear in the blog):

“Last night while roasting the legendary Iron Sheik, I told a fairly off color joke. I'll let you be the judge!
I said, ‘After the Sheik and Hacksaw Jim got caught sniffing coke in the parking lot his career fell faster than Owen Heart’
This didn't go over so well!
Scott Hall otherwise known as Razor Ramone rushed the stage, threw the podium and grabbed me by the throat. He jammed me into the wall, the whole time I was smiling (although I wasn't sure if it was schtick or not).

Who am I kidding I pooped myself!
My good buddy King Kong Bundy came to the rescue, along with several security guards and pulled the drunken bohemoth off of me!
I had some fans there to see me tear the sheik up and they were screaming from the audience to run roundboy run!
Even my buddy Scotty Schwartz (Flick from A christmas Story) was trying to help get the beast off of me.
About 10 minutes later the cops showed up and hauled Ramone away after tazoring him outside the lobby of the Crowne Plaza.
The whole thing will be on DVD and I'm sure youtube.
I just want to say the joke was pure evil but I was paid to write a ROAST!
I loved Owen Heart as a wrestler and a man. I think he would have laughed!”

His MySpace address is http://www.myspace.com/roundboysrule. The MySpace page also includes his upcoming schedule.

Mordetzky Mastering indy wrestling

PDF Print E-mail
Written by Amanda
Sunday, 12 October 2008 14:01

In the late 1980s, you were either a fan of Hulk Hogan or The Ultimate Warrior. As a diehard "little warrior" Chris Mordetzky was influenced enough to dream of one day being a wrestler himself. He succeeded, as Chris Masters in the WWE. You would think the chance to work a show with his childhood hero would be a dream come true.

Think again.

"Man if you wanted to turn this into a shoot, I will shoot on the Warrior for you. He is from this day forward the Ultimate Asshole." Mordetzky told SLAM! Wrestling.

The Ultimate Warrior’s much heralded return to the ring took place in Barcelona, Spain on June 25, 2008 for Nu-Wrestling Evolution, and Mordetzky was there.

"The guy is 50 years old and he expected the red carpet rolled out for him in NWE. We were doing a three-week tour of Spain and they brought him in to create a buzz for the product. He had one match to do with Orlando Jordan for our big show in Barcelona. They rented him a house and flew out his wife and daughters and all I was hearing about from the guys higher up was his bitching and saying, 'I am the Ultimate Warrior, you should be promoting this more,' and doing everything he possibly could to be a dick and make it hard for those of us who were working every day busting our asses."

Warrior had initially made a non-wrestling appearance in April for the company, which lead to the match. It was an entirely different Warrior that appeared then.

"The first time he came out he had a meeting, gave this nice speech about how he felt it was his responsibility to give back. Two months later he was bitching about stuff, comes to the show, doesn’t say hi to anybody, goes straight to the locker room, gets in his Warrior gear and goes out and works a 16-minute match that was 20 minutes too long."

The match has been universally panned by fans at the event as well as those who ordered the match on pay per view on the internet.

"The guy trained for this match like it was a bodybuilding show. He hadn’t wrestled legitimately in about 15 years, because let's be honest that WCW run doesn’t even count. He gave Orlando a hiptoss and a backdrop and then blew up in two minutes; there was nothing that Orlando could do. He stunk the whole joint out. We were backstage and it was unlike any atmosphere I have ever felt. We asked Juventud Guerrera what they were chanting in Spanish and it was things like boring and bullsh--. Whatever he thinks his value is, he is completely delusional. It is safe to say the Ultimate Warrior is an asshole, the best way to describe him is ugh."

Aside from that experience, Mordetzky speaks highly of NWE, which has seen him travel throughout Europe with other former WWE stars such as Heidenriech, Romeo of the Hearthrobs, and Rikishi. The promotion regularly draws over 10,000 fans and has had a lot of success.

"They are really trying to make that a new territory and it is quite impressive actually, I really feel they are onto something there."

Mordetzky is best known as "The Masterpiece" Chris Masters, the name given to him by the WWE during his run there from 2005 to 2007. He signed with the company very young, and as a result had some issues throughout his tenure. He was released last November after failing a wellness test.

"I had a lot of stuff thrown at me, they signed me at 19 or 20 years old, I spent a year in Louisville and then next thing I know I was on live TV and living my dream with all of this money thrown at me. I was still immature. It was a little touch and go with me. I think they thought I could have a good match but wasn’t consistent; sometimes I wasn’t and I will be the first to admit it. A lot of that was just my issues and very humbling for me the whole experience. I have a lot of maturing to do and that is kind of what I am doing now," he said.

"I wanted to take a couple of years off after what happened with WWE. That is the place to be and I would want to be there. Wrestling is my passion and after I got released I weighed out my options and started wrestling on the indies, which I never did before, and found that love for it again. I am 25 years old so time is definitely in my favor. I want to take some time off from WWE and get my head straight and get back there."

While there, Mordetzky was given a 1980s move as a finisher. Through repeated "Masterlock Challenges" they managed to get a fan reaction to the full Nelson.

"It is about putting the marketing behind it. The Masterlock was basic and old school, but at that point in time what they wanted to do with the company was take it a few steps back because they felt they had pushed the bar so far they needed to retrain the fans. Talent was dropping left and right with injuries. The Masterlock was one of the first things they did, and put the machine behind it like we did. Believe me, I questioned it myself. To his credit it was Triple H who said to keep rolling with it and it would get over. I don’t know if you want to call it over or not, but it generates a reaction. It is a pretty cool thing to have a full Nelson renamed into the Masterlock."

He hopes to make a return to the company someday.

"This is a good time for me, I am still working, wrestling, and love it. But I want to go back to WWE for that reason, to really fulfill what I felt my destiny was. Even if I don’t go back, I got to work some of the people I respected most in this industry -- Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels, Undertaker, Hunter. Those are the cream of the crop. I never got to work Hogan but that is asking for a bit much, I guess."

On the independent scene, he is growing as a person, and a wrestler, while enjoying gaining the experience he never had prior to going to WWE.

"My game has stepped up since I left the WWE. I wasn’t there long enough to really get burnt out on the schedule like some other guys. I definitely feel I am getting better, and getting the chance to work babyface too, which is really rewarding because I am starting to think that is my niche as far as timing and everything. A lot of people think the 'Masterpiece' character has to be a heel and think I am crazy. Being in WWE means people give you a warm reception on indy shows and I am running with that and working as a babyface as it comes more natural."

While working the independent scene may not have the recognition of being on TV or large stadiums, it has its advantages.

"The benefit is the freedom. With WWE, not that it is a bad thing, but it is signing your life away. The freedom to book myself and still be in demand and make a living, I am enjoying at this point in time. I don’t want to wrestle on the independent scene forever, I don’t think that is realistic. But the experience I had with WWE, it is a good time for me to reflect and still be able to work and make a living. The only challenge with any of this is that you don’t really know if you have a consistent paycheque coming in. But I have been lucky in being busy."

He has also enjoyed the opportunity to work in new places and companies.

"I’ve worked for Harley Race’s promotion, and in Japan and to Puerto Rico. It sounds funny but I tell people this is a good time for me. I went straight to the system, whether someone thinks I was ready for WWE or not. I was signed, went to OVW and went straight to TV. I worked for it for a long time but when it happened, it happened very quick. I have never worked indies, or toured these places outside of the WWE. So it is getting cultured in professional wrestling. Imagine what I can learn just from being around all of the styles I am going to be around. I was just in Mexico a month ago and worked my first six-man tag elimination tag match which was absolutely nuts. La Parka is like the John Cena of Mexico. It was insane hearing that audience."

Every year WWE does a housecleaning of sorts and a number of talents find themselves without a job. Does Mordetzky have any advice -- as someone who is having success on the independent scene -- to those who are released?

"I don’t know if I am the most qualified person to give advice, but I have done very well since I left. I was not going to let it knock me down and out. I thought about doing other things but I knew I had established a name in wrestling and should pursue it. I made contacts through guys that I knew within the business and I went online and did as many interviews as I could to plug my MySpace and e-mail whether it be for questions or bookings."

He also spends a great deal of time working on charitable opportunities.

"I am involved with the Big Brothers program. When you are given a gift to impact kids like wrestlers do, these kids look at wrestlers like we are larger than life. WWE gave me the exposure and I wanted to utilize that in a positive way. I also address schools, introducing kids to working out. This is stuff on the side I am doing for my own personal fulfillment and kind of giving back."

In speaking with Chris Mordetzky, it is evident that he is very happy with his life. At only 25 years old, he still has a lot of living -- and wrestling -- left to do.

"It is good it worked out this way. How hard is it for an indy worker without the exposure or name from WWE to make a living? If I was to do it again, I would not want to do anything different because I created a name for myself in WWE, they invested a lot of time and with their help I developed the character. That has helped me still be able to work. There are no hard feelings towards WWE. When the time feels right I would definitely love to look into going back there. But I am able to make a living because of my run in WWE, and it is hard to be an indy wrestler otherwise. I have no regrets. If you look at my career as a book, we are at Chapter 6. Who knows what Chapter 7 will be, WWE, TNA or not wrestling at all? I think it will be wrestling, I kind of lost my love for it at certain times, and regrettably when I was with WWE, but I know in my heart I love it. I still have that love inside me."

Details On The Deaths Of Striker and Grisham's Fathers

source: the wrestling observer

As reported several days ago, both Todd Grisham and Matt Striker had deaths in their families that kept them off two separate WWE broadcasts. We can now confirm that both men lost their fathers tragically, and completely coincidentally.

In the case of Todd Grisham, his father was apparently riding his bike when he was hit by a drunk driver and killed. The driver of the car has since been arrested.

Matt Striker's father was reportedly eating a peach when the pit suddenly went down the wrong pipe causing him to choke. He was then hospitalized where doctors surprisingly discovered a totally unrelated aneurysm. They performed a surgery that reportedly went well, however shortly after Striker's father went into a coma that he had been in for several weeks while Matt continued to call ECW broadcasts. His father then passed away last weekend.

Cena And Orton In Ring Returns, Linda McMahon Speaks, More on Sinn Bowdee

It seems that John Cena will be back for Survivor Series. WWE have released a new poster for the pay per view featuring Cena, who is currently outafter having neck surgery. Survivor Series is set to take place near Boston, near to Cena's hometown of West Newberry. WWE also ran two video segments this past week showing how Cena got injured and had a few of their superstars, Batista & Triple H to name just a couple of them, talking about what a work horse Cena is and how he was backstage at Smackdown a few hours after his surgery had taken place. If this poster is legit (and it looks to be) it does seem then that WWE and John Cena are aiming for a November return.

Another in-ring return seems imminent as CMPunk Vs Randy Orton has been advertised for the November 7th house show in Italy. An advertisement poster for this match can be seen at - http://wrestleshare.com/images/cq0w3s8urnuztcu4yz5v.jpg

As reported yesterday, Sinn Bowdee seems to be the latest to be getting a push from FCW. Bowdee's new name is Kizarny and vignette's were aired on Samckdown this past Friday showing him speaking Carny, the secret language of carnival workers.

Linda McMahon is in the New York Times, speaking candidly about the fans she says:
"Technology keeps you on your toes. We have spectators e-mailing photos during the show, and they’re all over the Internet before the show is even over. It’s instant distribution on a global basis. One of our performers can be out just shopping for sneakers, and all of a sudden it’s a viral video on YouTube."
She also says her most cherished name is 'Gamma Gamma', given to her by their first grandchild.

The HSBC Arena in Buffalo, NY is advertising the following matches for the December WWE Armageddon PPV.

* Chris Jericho vs. Batista vs. John Cena for the World Title
* Triple H vs. Vladimir Kozlov for the WWE Title

Randy Orton is currently being advertsied for the upcoming November UK/Eurpopean tour in matches with CMPunk. No word yet as to the status of Orton's injury and whether or not this will prevent him from actually wrestling.

D'Lo Brown has a new Blog up on the WWE Universe talking about his elbow problems. In the blog he says :
"I was in my Bone and Joint doctor's office yesterday.  (Hey Dr. Mike!) I've been going to the same guy for a number of years now.  My left elbow has been  bothering me quite a bit in recent weeks.  He checked it out.  Took x-rays.  He asked me, "When did you break your elbow?"  I explained that I hadn't.  "Yes you did.  But it's healed now," he tells me.  Turns out my current injury is Medial Epicondylitis......yup, golfer's elbow.  Never really golfed a day in my life but....ok.  More than likely this condition simply comes from repetitive movement from lifting, strain, stress, that type of thing.  Wrestling is probably covered in there somewhere.  LOL.

Nothing to worry about, thankfully."

Superstar Return At FCW, JR Blog, Cena Note And More

PDF Print E-mail
Written by paps
Friday, 10 October 2008 09:20

- At the FCW-WWE TV tapings in Tampa, Florida last night, Umaga made a return to the ring facing Black Pain. The bout was his first after a PCL injury that required him to take some time off to rehab.

Also in attendance at the tapings, but not appearing before the crowd were Edge and former TNA wrestler and WWE Superstar Tomko. WWE World Champion Chris Jericho, Batista and Kelly Kelly also appeared on the tapings.

Notes from JR's latest blog from jrsbarbq.com:

- I can't remember when I felt compelled to read one "wrestling" book twice but the Bret Hart book is the first. If you are a real fan of the business and you don't read this book then you are not really a fan of the business. Make sense? The book is now available at Amazon.com and would make a great holiday gift idea. Just don't expect Bret to sign yours as he signed mine. :) Bottom line (thanks Stone Cold) is BUY THE BOOK!

- Listening to some young wrestlers talk amongst themselves recently, I was shocked to hear of the variety of subject matters they so "profoundly" discussed. IPods, IPhones, "I" period but nothing about wrestling, counters, submissions, paying their taxes, saving their money, hiring a financial planner, preparing for their future....you get the picture. It is easy for many of today's wrestlers to bi### and moan about their position in their chosen profession or lack thereof and provide an overall woe is me version of their lives to whomever will listen but change for the better, or worse, starts with looking in the mirror. I walked away from this inadvertent eavesdropping shaking my head but thinking that young wrestlers are no different than young stockbrokers (bad analogy), young professionals, etc.  All company's can do a better job in putting the right tools in the hands of their people but only the people themselves can make the tools work for them. Broke and seemingly helpless wrestlers from any era can largely blame themselves for not having the common sense or discipline to prepare for their futures.

- The "Naitch" called yours truly today from L.A. He sounded great and was, surprise, staying REALLY busy. He wanted to wish the Sooners good luck this Saturday against the 'Horns. Ric sounded refreshed and happy and truly excited about some upcoming projects that he could not elaborate on at the moment but one could tell he was jacked about the future. I wish my dear friend nothing but the very best and hope that all his ventures are "hits."  It sounds as if a MAJOR announcement will be forthcoming from Flair's "people."

WWE.com has a story up regarding John Cena on a promtional tour of Australia to promote his appearance on the Nickleodeon Kids Choice Awards.

- WWE has sent out a memo saying that John Laurinaitis will offer at least one, if not more developmental deals at the upcoming tryout down in Tampa, Florida at Florida Championship Wrestling. We did post last week that the rumor going around is that WWE planned to sign at least one star at the tryouts.
