TNA PPV NOTES

Notes on tonight's PPV from Lowell, MA. The company is hoping to break the attendance record set last year in St. Louis. I believe it's set up for 6,000 and should be sold out or close to it.

*Kurt Angle vs. Samoa Joe for the title. Joe vows to retire if he doesn't win the title. They have been planning for months for that to happen. It's wrestling and there can always be late surprises and changes, but the way it's been built up, its time for the change. Actually it's more than a year late. Expectations are pretty high for this match. Winner defends next month against Scott Steiner

*Christian Cage & Sting & Kevin Nash & Rhino & Matt Morgan vs. Tomko & A.J. Styles & Team 3-D & James Storm. Similar to War Games with the staggered entrances. When everyone is in the match, a ceiling comes down with weapons. Expect some insanity from Styles. Hopefully they won't overdo the weapons and detract from the match.

*Jay Lethal vs Sonjay Dutt vs. Johnny Devine vs. Shark Boy vs. Consequences Creed vs. Curry Man for the X title in an Escape the cage match. I'm thinking this is the time for Dutt to somehow steal Lethal's title and girl given the direction of television. I'm going to say this a lot, but hopefully the escape stipulations don't ruin what on paper should be a very good match.

*Queen of the Cage. It starts with Angelina Love, Velvet Sky, Salinas, Rhaka Khan, Traci, Christy Hemme, Jackie Moore and Roxxi Lavaugh outside the cage. The first two who climb in get a singles match and the winner becomes Queen of the Cage. I'm not sure what purpose this match has when you already have two women's matches on the card. This sells no extra orders. It kills team that has to be taken from the key matches, particularly since the Lethal Lockdown match has to go long. And on paper this looks like a bad match

*Booker T & Sharmell vs. Robert Roode & Payton Banks. This should be the blow-off to the angle, which has lost some steam in recent weeks. Should be decent and it at least makes sense within the storyline

*B.G. James vs. Kip James. I will say this. They've done as good a job as they could have with building this match, even giving them an extra month to build the first match. It's probably the beginning of the program, so whatever they do, expect it to be open ended. It's a big deal because if they can't make people care about this program, there isn't much left for either. But they are two of the company's higher paid guys and the company always favors guys who were once stars

*A match where the last man not handcuffed wins at the end although fought with teams of Motor City Machine Guns, LAX, Scott Steiner & Petey Williams, Rock & Rave Infection, Black Reign & Rellik and Super Eric & Kaz. This is another one where the stips have a shot at hurting the match instead of enhancing it

*Awesome Kong & Raisha Saeed vs. ODB & Gail Kim. Kong and Kim have stolen many a PPV show. It will be interesting to see what they allow Saeed to do although they've acknowledged she is a trained wrestler.
The undercard doesn't look on paper as strong from a wrestling standpoint, but they've done the best job of building the main event of any match in TNA in a long time. The expectation is the biggest buy rate of the year, and ultimately, this show will largely be judged on how the top two matches do.
