FLOP? For those using Monday's Raw rating as a sign Wrestlemania will do a disappointing buy rate, you should go back in history and look at the Raw rating the week before Mania and the Mania buy rate. If there's one thing studying the numbers shows--ratings are not a very good indicator of how many people will attend house shows, nor of buy rates. Look at UFC ratings, often less than one-third of Raw, and they beat WWE on PPV the past two years. Go back nine years and ratings were close to double for Raw what they are, and this year's Mania will easily beat the 1999 Mania on PPV. It's not the rating, but what you do with your two hours of time when it comes to hype. If you produce the world's greatest wrestling TV show (De La Hoya vs. Mayweather 24/7 was the world's greatest pro wrestling television show by the way in history, which almost anyone in pro wrestling will readily admit even though it technically wasn't pro wrestling at all), you will convert a relatively low number of actual viewers into an all-time record buy rate. If you don't do a good job with your TV in building an event, you could do a 6.0 rating and flop on PPV. Source: wrestlingobserver.com
MOVING UP- Due to Wrestlemania starting at 7pm ET, The Score is going to be moving up Sunday's edition of the WWE Experience to 1pm ET. The 7pm ET edition will still air and will be head-to-head with the first hour of Mania. Source: gerweck.net
WRESTLEMANIA NOTES- With Wrestlemania outdoors this year, WWE is going to use a record amount of pyro at the show. Orlando will again bid for Wrestlemania in 2012. Boxer Ricky Hatton turned down a WWE offer to be apart of this year's Wrestlemania. Hatton, a big wrestling fan, adopted the nickname "The Hitman" from Bret Hart, and not from boxing legend Thomas Hearns. There is still no word on who will induct the Briscos into the WWE hall of fame this weekend. Dave Meltzer reports that at one time Terry Funk was talked about for the spot.
