Newsflash

The PPV numbers are in for WrestleMania 24, and they are considerably lower than wwe and Floyd Mayweather expected. WrestleMania 24 drew 1,058,000 buys which works out to $23.8 million. This is less than last year’s 1,200,000 buys and $24.4 million for WrestleMania 23. The numbers were released this morning with WWE’s first quarter earnings report, which had the company listed as pulling in $19.5 million in net earnings over the first quarter of 2008.

Every year is the same. Those early mornings here in the UK sat waiting in anticipation, goose bumps tingling all over and the fatigue and tiredness running through the body. What is going to happen tonight? Who is going to win? What will be that special moment? The pyro hits, the music starts and then, it's like deja vu. Howard Finkel is in the ring and ladies and gentleman, it's WrestleMania. It's the "grand daddy of them all". The "Super Bowl" of the WWE. Oh don't you just love it?

Every year WrestleMania fascinates me. No matter how downright dreadful or beautifully exciting the wrestling business is going into WrestleMania weekend, everybody comes together and celebrates this fantastic event.

This year is no different. With the scheduled main event of Triple H vs. John Cena vs. Randy Orton we are guaranteed a classic. The second main event, where the undefeated streaks of The Undertaker and Edge come together, will also be a fantastic match and another typical Undertaker masterpiece. No matter who is he facing, Undertaker somehow raises his game every WrestleMania. Add to the card Ric Flair vs. Shawn Michaels and a Money in the Bank ladder match and this card is shaping up to be one of the best WrestleMania's in recent times. That's without one of the most hyped up celebrity story lines in years even included. Floyd Mayweather anyone?

Floyd Mayweather vs. The Big Show should be, and probably will be, one of the highlights of the night. Shoot or not, this contest will be the one the media are there for and I can imagine it will certainly live up to expectations. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how the WWE will pull this off and no doubt, many people who might not necessarily watch wrestling, will be buying the PPV for this match.

All in all, it is a fantastic card and one that many wrestling fans are looking forward to. It has everything from celebrity involvement, to an insane ladder match, to three heavyweight title matches and more. Wrestling fans certainly are the winner when it comes to buying this PPV and it should certainly give the wrestling fans a few hours of entertainment. It's not always been the most entertaining spectacle of all time though.

My earliest WrestleMania memories were at WrestleMania 9 from Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event, which was the beginning for Jim Ross as a WWE announcer, is seen as one of the most forgettable WrestleMania's of all time. The ridiculous end to the PPV, which saw Hulk Hogan walk out as the WWE Heavyweight Champion for a fifth time, has been criticised for years for being one of the worst finishes to a PPV. The card was stacked with very average matches and at least half of the matches ended from either count out, disqualification or interference. Not exactly a brilliant way to conclude matches on the biggest PPV of the year.

That was my first WrestleMania I remember and it is certainly one I remember quite clearly. The props used, the outside arena and the over the top characters more than hooked me to the PPV and the legacy that is WrestleMania. There's no doubt that it is special but my first WrestleMania memories will always be soured by that awful PPV. Interestingly, this years WrestleMania will be the second WrestleMania to be held outside after WrestleMania 9. Let's hope that is where the similarities end when we look back at this years WrestleMania.

Since WrestleMania 9 there has been some fantastic moments at WrestleMania I will never forget. The celebrations at the end of WrestleMania 10 were very special, as was the fantastic ladder match between Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon earlier in the show. Later that decade, the series of matches between Steve Austin and The Rock launched WWE to a whole new level and even the appearance of Mike Tyson, at WrestleMania 14, made WWE a must watched product over its rival WCW. More recently, who will ever forget Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit embracing in the ring? Ladies and Gentleman, that is why I love WrestleMania.

WrestleMania is just fantastic. The months of buildup and preparation coming to a close always gives us a great PPV, and with some of the best wrestlers in the world raising their game to the highest level, we're always guaranteed some very good matches from the bottom of the card to the top.

Vince McMahon loves giving the fans something at WrestleMania and you can be sure that this WrestleMania will give us a few special moments as well. Let's hope the PPV and the events on that day live long in the memory. In years to come I would love to look back and remember WrestleMania 24 like I do any other WrestleMania.

It is definitely a highlight of the year and I certainly think there's something about WrestleMania weekends that is just unforgettable, from the Hall of Fame inductions to the main event of WrestleMania, the weekend fails to disappoint. Whether your going to tune in to watch the Floyd Mayweather match or Ric Flair's last WrestleMania, it is clearly going to be a very memorable weekend. I'm already excited and I'm certain this PPV is going to be huge. Be sure not to miss out. With so many angles going into the PPV, there is certainly no stop to the entertainment throughout this event. It's going to be special.
