Newsflash

The PPV numbers are in for WrestleMania 24, and they are considerably lower than wwe and Floyd Mayweather expected. WrestleMania 24 drew 1,058,000 buys which works out to $23.8 million. This is less than last year’s 1,200,000 buys and $24.4 million for WrestleMania 23. The numbers were released this morning with WWE’s first quarter earnings report, which had the company listed as pulling in $19.5 million in net earnings over the first quarter of 2008.

-- Head RAW writer Brian Gewirtz recently cancelled his summer vacation. The feeling is that with the RAW ratings are disappointing levels he doesn’t want to miss any shows. Vince is said to be much more open to new ideas when ratings are in the dumps.

-- Foyd Mayweather has recently been saying that there are no plans to return to WWE, but he is open to it, loved working with them, and is looking forward to working with them again. Mayweather said that he would only do it if he got the same deal he did for WrestleMania, which looks unlikely as things stand right now. The only way WWE could justify giving Floyd that same huge payoff would be if Oscar De La Hoya or Ricky Hatton got in the ring as well. WWE has likely learned from WCW’s work with Dennis Rodman, who drew one of the biggest buyrates in history for his match against Karl Malone but barely drew any attention for his next match with Randy Savage.

-- The push that Mickie James is currently getting was actually at one point slated for Ashley Massaro.
